‘What’s in a name?’?asked Juliet.
When it comes to naming your business, a lot.?
‘Choosing the right name for your company should be an essential part of your business plan and not an afterthought.’ Richard White.
When it came to naming my business, I knew it had to mean something to me. My business is my baby. I knew it had to represent this beautiful, exciting new chapter in my life.?
Now 42, I am a mother, I’m wiser, more robust, more assertive, more determined. I named my business Naissance, which is French for birth. My icon represents the growth rings in a tree trunk. I’ve grown a lot - but I’ve a lot of growing to do.?
I was late to the party for many big life events, getting engaged, getting married, having a baby at 38. I had flirted with the idea of running my own business but I made excuses. I’m not brave enough, I’m not smart enough, I’m not good enough.?
I admit, I still think those things at times but, I’m a businesswoman and run a small but thriving digital marketing consultancy in Bangor, Co Down.
Giving birth to my son gave birth to a new me. Becoming a mother changes you so fundamentally, so much that you no longer recognise who you were before you became one.?
I’ve been a slave to a wage for most of my life, working in jobs that drained me of my vitality and vibrance. Not anymore.?
I’ve reinvented myself, as a mother, as a businesswoman, as a person. I may be late to the party starting a business at 39, but I’m just getting started.?

So if you have an idea for a business, nurture it, grow it, believe in your unique talents and ability. You are your biggest asset.?
As Kelly Cutrone, CEO of People’s Revolution and NY Times bestselling author told me one time in a ‘walk and talk’ interview: ‘When you are living your dream, you are also living your nightmare’.?
Those words have always stuck with me. Running your own business is so hard, but it is so good too.?
‘Do not fear changing, for it is leading to the best season of your life yet.’ Jennae Cecelia.?
