What's on my mind? Gory Stories!
I'm a big believer that most of us learn best through the sharing of stories. And I personally learn more from my mistakes, my goofs and my missteps than I do from my victories. That's why I encourage my guests on Unlocking Moves to share, not just their Glory stories...I want to hear their GORY stories. Because as I like to say, the bigger the shit show, the bigger the lesson.
Anyone who tells you they don't have any lessons learned the hard way, any big mistakes or outright shit shows, simply aren't being honest with themselves.
So this Halloween, I encourage YOU to share a "scary" story with others. Your story may not only unlock a powerful lesson for someone else, but your vulnerability will encourage others to show up more authentically themselves. And that's a mark of a strong leader. Whatcha got? Maybe it's a moment the world seemed to be crashing down on your business and you weren't sure if you'd make it. Maybe your A/C went out on your way to a big customer presentation...in the blazing heat of a Texas summer. Maybe you made a major goof that cost your company your largest client. Or maybe you hired a bad person for a crucial role!
Are you brave enough to share your own gory story?!? I'd love to hear it!
My own gory story
Earlier this year - I opened up about how I lost my way in 2023. This was a deeply personal and introspective topic for me, and it was NOT easy to share. Losing your way as a founder and leader is tough, and it's easy to spiral downward. My hope when I shared this piece was to encourage you that "you're not alone" and inspire you to find your purpose and do whatever you can to live and breathe your "highest and best" self.
It's not all Sunshine and Bananas...
Even the most successful entrepreneurs hit roadblocks, they've stumbled, and had sleepless nights not knowing if their business would make it another week, month, or year.
Jesse Cole is one of those rare inspirational people who dives into the reasons for his success... but also makes room to talk about the difficult times when he struggled in building his baseball empire.

Back in 2015 after discussing for over a year, we agreed to buy an expansion baseball team and start our adventure together in Savannah. Little did we know that within three of months of starting the team and three months from our wedding day, we would run out of money and be forced to sell our house.
Running a business is hard. Leading a business that is growing, and public facing, that is under a microscope, is even harder. But running a family is often the hardest. Support, empathy and encouragement is everything. And it goes both ways.
Check out this post - dedicated to his wife and original co-conspirator - and look me in the eye and tell me you're not inspired by his gory story!

3 周"You are not alone!" Isn't that what we want to know, not just hear, when we're going through a tough time? Kudos to each of your guests for not just telling us they had tough times, but sharing the details so we can learn from them and know we aren't alone.

3 周What a great topic for Halloween, Kurt! Entrepreneurship is more often about the hard times that go unseen, and running out of cash is scary ??

3 周I love it when successful entrepreneurs are willing to go behind the curtain and talk about how hard it can be. It’s inspiring to hear how people overcame and dealt with the obstacles they’ve faced - even if it didn’t always go the way they planned. Thanks for being an advocate for these stories!
