What’s the Most You Could Learn in 10 Minutes?
I think the answer is quite a lot. So I created Skillably to prove it.
Here are three ways we increase the amount of meaningful learning you can fit into short time spans.
1) Your learning is active
I’m against long texts and videos. Even the best ones struggle to command your attention because they’re temptingly easy to tune out.
Skillably uses a series of quick and fun challenges to teach a topic. You only advance by completing the challenge. This way you’re sure you’ve got the material down.
2) You’re challenged (and fail)
You learn best by getting things wrong. Mistakes are great, as long as you try again and figure it out.
Grades and tests at school had the opposite philosophy; they punished errors and rewarded perfection. If you get all the answers right have you gotten any better?
You’re probably accustomed to learning something first then being tested on it afterwards. Combining learning and testing into one makes something much more fun than the sum of its parts.
3) It’s relevant to you now
I try, and fail to learn a lot of new things. No matter how interesting the subject, I tend to succeed most when it’s relevant to something I am currently trying to do (giving better pitches, saving for retirement, learning Javascript to build Skillably, etc.).
With Skillably, you choose specific skills in fields like Public Speaking, Investing and Management. Tailor your learning to your life today. Don’t waste time learning something you’ll forget after never having a chance to use.
Skillably is ultimately about fast learning. We think 10 minutes is about how much most adults can handle before getting restless. These learning sprints are perfect for challenge formats, but not so much for textbooks or courses, which require sustained commitment to reap rewards.
Try committing to just 10 minutes today, I’m sure you’ll feel progress. A daily habit of learning for 10 minutes pays off over time much better than a one month binge.
