Whats more important Process or Outcome ?
There is considerable discussion on Linked in and in other forum on the importance of networking and the development of relationships in job seeking and in business generally. There is also instruction from time to time in these discussions on the best way to go about this which can from time to time be helpful particularly given the realities of the modern recruitment process.
However on the job front if we just focused on these issues we would be missing the fundamental issue in my view. We need to take this up a notch and understand that debate on the method of networking is a symptom of a broader problem. The broader problem is that the system of itself is flawed due to bad technological change in the form of ATS and things such as networking and other processes, prima-facie seem to be more important than the outcome.
Now for me I love networking I think it is brilliant and very useful regardless of whether you are talking about employment or other issues . However I also love bringing things to a conclusion. We are not all Jeff Bezos with infinite resources. People who are looking for work have finite resources. Ask yourselves this question we allegedly have low unemployment right? Then why was the average rate of time looking for work across the OECD ten months in 2017? I would suggest two reasons technological change and flawed process.
So yes applicants need coaching and I am happy to play my part on that. However to concentrate on that alone ignores the broader issue.
Why am I so passionate about this. Simple I am a victim of corporate restructuring myself who was without regular income for over a year and am now hopefully starting to rebuild his and his families lives.
Rather than worry about whether someone networked appropriately or not lets concentrate on building a system that minimizes peoples pain and means that new jobs can be found in a timely fashion.

6 年If Applicant Tracking Software (ATS) is the sole primary means by which recruitment selection is made then the art of recruitment is truly dead. A generalised piece of software is doing the work that a talented human traditionally does, therefore removing the human element that can capture a diamond in the rough otherwise overlooked. This must end, a person’s employment or career potential and earning capacity is severely censured by this method. A radical change to software implementation, the use of and augmentation of that software and expert coaching needs to happen to ensure value is obtained at every level throughout the entire process from application to award for both candidate and employer.
