What’s the missing piece once you’ve published your book and don’t experience the s

Imagine you’ve spent months, maybe years, writing your book.


You’ve poured your heart into every chapter, edited it to perfection, and finally hit “publish.” But instead of the flood of interest, sales, and opportunities you envisioned, you’re met with… silence.


What went wrong?


Publishing a book without a clear plan is like hosting a dinner party without sending out invitations.


You’ve created something incredible, but no one knows it’s there.


The missing piece, the one that makes all the difference, is planning with purpose from the very beginning.


Here’s an analogy: Think of your book as a garden.


Writing the book is like planting seeds. But if you don’t prepare the soil, choose the right location, or ensure the seeds get water and sunlight, the garden won’t thrive—no matter how good the seeds are.


The same goes for your book.


Before you even write the first word, you need to understand your audience, your message, and your goals.


  • Who are you writing for?
  • What do they need from you?
  • How will you get your book into their hands?


Those are the first three questions I ask my clients and where marketing planning already starts.


Instead of waiting until after your book is published to figure out how to reach readers, my framework integrates marketing from the start.


For example, if you want your book to establish you as a thought leader, we’ll map out opportunities for speaking gigs, media coverage, and partnerships long before the book is done.


If your goal is to drive sales, we’ll craft a strategy to build buzz and pre-orders during the writing process.


When you approach book writing with a clear plan, the success you envisioned becomes not just possible but inevitable and I do know that from personal experience having written four books.

Love the dinner party reference, no-one expects guest to show up for party without inviting them, and that invitation has clear instructions, venue, time and date, yet many do write a book without a clue where they are going with it or what they want it to do for them.

I think to be successful in lots of things, the ‘hit and hope’ approach is rarely the way to go. Having proper structure and a plan is. Great advice Sigrid!
