What’s marketing and what is marketing strategy?
Following my last sharing, people started to ask me more about marketing because they know I have spent nearly two decades on studying, learning and experiencing all topics about marketing.
Yes, marketing is not one topic but it has many different aspects, from strategy, strategic imperatives to communications. Marketing communications could be events, conferences, PR, press release…..etc.
Firstly, I think marketing is not a rocket science. Marketing is the process of communicating the WHY and HOW your target customers pay for the WHAT (your products or services).
Dr. Philip Kotler, a Father of Marketing, defined marketing as "the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit." While traditionally marketers were believed to identify existing customer needs and wants, I firmly believed that Steve Jobs challenged this notion by creating demand for products like the iPhone and iPod that people didn't initially realize they needed.
Secondly, what’s a good marketing strategy? I like the book written by Simon Sinek called “Start with Why” which helps a lot. Putting yourself in your audience's shoes and conveying the reasons WHY they should purchase your products or services. By identifying the "WHY," you can lay a strong foundation for your marketing efforts. Well begun is half done.
Then the marketers should start thinking HOW to reach the target audiences in the most effective ways to communicate the WHAT is offering and WHY they should pay for it.
Marketing is a sophisticated process relies on a combination of logical thinking and well-researched, regulated methodologies.
Hope it helps and enjoy the process.
