What’s Luck Got to Do With It?

Has Lady Luck been kind to you? I’d say she’s been pretty generous to me.?

My brother once took out a lottery ticket in my name and won. I’ve been my family’s lucky charm ever since ??

Now see, when it comes to stuff like this, you can call it dumb luck. But does good fortune play a role in achieving success?

I was watching a video on?Veritasium ?that dove into this topic and I've been thinking about it ever since. It made me realize how we’re often unaware of the fortunate events that shape our lives.

And guess what? The?Mona Lisa?got lucky, too.

In 1911, the painting was stolen from the Louvre by an Italian who worked there.

This theft sent the media into a frenzy and the?Mona Lisa?became wildly famous. Eventually, the painting was returned and celebrated like never before.

Now, the truth is, there are loads of equally great paintings that could have been just as successful, but we don't hear about them so often because they weren’t as lucky.

So if hard work isn’t all it takes and luck?does?play a role, what can any of us do to find success?

Here’s my take:

Go about achieving your goals with the mindset that your success depends?only?on hard work, determination, and talent.

But then acknowledge that this is not 100% true.

At the end of the day, you can’t divorce hard work and luck.?

An approach like this inspires empathy and makes us more willing to give back to those who are less fortunate.

And as one of the lucky ones, I have gratitude for how my life has played out. I hope others who are just as capable will catch a break someday, too.?
