What's love got to do with it? ??

Who wouldn’t right?

Well settle in and grab a drink for this edition of The Feminine Edge. It's a little longer than usual but I hope you'll agree it's worthy of your time and attention.?

Let me start with a story...

8 years ago I walked away from the successful life and career I had built to start over.?

It sounds courageous and romantic, in truth it was terrifying and I felt completely crushed by life.?

I was in the midst of a mental, physical and emotional breakdown and knew I needed to make extensive changes to have any chance of happiness in this life.?

This guy, my dad, was my biggest supporter.

He listened, held space for me and to my surprise didn’t try and talk me out of it!?

He was in the midst of his second cancer diagnosis and we were both painfully aware of just how short life can be.

So I took the leap to leave my life and the corporate career I'd worked so hard for and never looked back.?

After an operation while all this was unfolding, my dad got better and so did I ??????

We spent quality time together and made a new life for ourselves both individually and as a team.

He got well enough to go back to work, I traveled the world to heal and we came back together to live in our little dream home in Eriskay the Hebridean island where he grew up.

It was the happiest time of our lives together ??

Focused on the future I invested in myself and set up my coaching and consultancy business.?

Life was working out even better than I had dared to dream as I signed up my first coaching client within a few weeks.?

Then the third cancer diagnosis came and life switched gears as we had to deal with a very different future ahead of us.?

It’s my dad's birthday this week. He would have been 78 ??

Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him and think of him.

He was my best friend. My soulmate. We were so blessed to have each other.?

You might wonder why I’m telling you this?

I suppose it’s because when you love someone so much, you wonder what to do with all that love when they’re gone.?

Yes, it becomes grief.

But it can also become something much more powerful than that.?

When my dad was dying and I was caring for him, although I couldn’t build my business in the way I anticipated externally, I still built it internally.?

I talked to my dad about the work I felt called to do.

I told him about my dream to help those yearning to make a bigger difference in the world.

I would develop programmes designed to show you how to create a bigger impact, realise your dreams AND create a life filled with more time with the people you love.?

I would show people you don’t need to sacrifice who you are and what matters most to be successful.?

I'd share my message that you CAN create more balance and freedom and dance to the beat of your own drum AND earn more money not less.?

I would help people create success in a way that is deeply authentic and celebrates your uniqueness.?

I told him all the love I had for him and the unconditional love he had taught me, I would pour into my work. ??

That I would channel and harness our love and use it to make the world a better place. ??

That our love would live on.??

I told him I would never stop.

I would never give up.

I had no idea how I would get there but I’d work it out.

I would NEVER give up on my dream to help others unlock their full potential and claim their destiny.?

He smiled at me with so much love and pride in his eyes,?

'I know you Mel, I know you will achieve anything you set your heart to'?

I’d be lying if I said it’s been plain sailing since then! But my dream continues to come true and I stay committed.??

To myself. To my clients. To my love for this great man.?

So I might as well just lay it on the line for you now, I LOVE my clients!

(Not in a creepy way and with crystal clear boundaries!??)

The thing is, I need to love you and believe in you and your potential to hold space for you when your growth gets messy and chaotic, which it invariably does at times.

?

Yes, strategy really matters.

I’ve designed frameworks and methodologies that take out the guess work and help you feel supported and confident to be the woman or man the world needs you to be.

To finally make the contribution your heart and soul long for.?

But I've learned in pursuing your purpose in this life, strategy is nothing without love.

Your love will keep you going when you want to give up.?

And you care so deeply for your mission that I can’t help but love you! It makes you a wonderful human being ??

I’ve now worked with hundreds of clients from many backgrounds, professions and with many different talents and gifts.??

I’ve come to realise that success can often be boiled down to a very simple formula.

Are you acting from a place of fear? Or love??

In all my work, whether it’s helping a senior leader overcome secret imposter syndrome to claim her space at the boardroom,?

OR, helping someone scale their business to much higher revenues whilst working less hours,

LOVE is always at the heart of the answer.

? Loving yourself more through your choices;

? Harnessing the love for your clients through potent messaging and marketing;

? Choosing to be present and available and demonstrating love for your family.?

What decision will take you closer to love and release you from fear??

This simple checkpoint can help you course correct in the most turbulent of times when your logical brain has you going round in circles feeling lost and confused and frustrated.?

So the next time you feel scared, worried, anxious or find yourself doubting yourself and your abilities, ask yourself...

How can I bring more love to this situation?

This moment?

This decision???

And then stay quiet ??

Let your wise voice whisper the answer.

Take some deep breaths.

Relax.

Know that when you allow yourself to be grounded in love, you can’t get it wrong.

It’s what makes the world go around after all ???????
