If you've been following the 2025 mentorship closely, you’ve probably noticed that one of the key perks of the program is the Internship Opportunity.
Now, this opportunity is quite versatile. You won’t just be interning with Learn with Sapphire—you’ll have the chance to intern with a variety of brands.
In the 2024 cohort, half of our mentees were placed with diverse businesses for their internships.
And no, it’s not like a typical university internship where you're left to find opportunities on your own (though you’re free to pursue ones you’ve got your eye on). We do the hard work.
We reach out directly to brands in need of email marketing services and negotiate internship opportunities for our students.
These internships can last 30 or 60 days, depending on the agreement. And yes, some of them are paid.
We already secured a partnership with a marketing agency for an internship against April 2025 and we’re looking to get more. Our internship slots cut across all industries.
To the big question, what’s it like working as an email marketing intern?
Hey Emmanuella, come here for a sec and share your experience with us…
By the way, Emmanuella is one of our interns here at Learn with Sapphire (LWS)…? I will be handing her the keyboard now so you can hear from the horse's mouth
Heyyyy Emmanuella here and here is my story; what’s it like being an email marketing intern at LWS? hmmmm.
“Personally I have always liked emails. I’m one of those people who sign up on a random brand’s email list just to get promotional emails.?
Unfortunately, marketing was not in my career focus initially until ?2022, November, when I came across Dr.Sapphire’s email marketing offer. It was to get the Briefcase (her email marketing course) and join the mentorship.?
I got the Briefcase but couldn’t sustain being in the mentorship because I was doing a lot at the time.?
I remember messaging Dr. Sapphire and begging her to bring back the mentorship in Q4 of 2023, cos that was when I knew I would be able to be part of it.
And right on cue, I joined the cohort 4- 2024 batch. It was a three-month intensive mentorship.
I wrote all about here? This program was as practical as they come, down to learning about SAAS email marketing.
Typically, most email marketing programs center only on e-commerce and service-based marketing.
After I completed the program, I initially thought I was going to put everything into practice for my content marketing client, but I couldn’t because it’s not part of their marketing plans for now.?
I felt like the skills I got from the mentorship were “wasting away,” but I still couldn’t get myself to apply for email marketing jobs.?
Coincidentally Dr.Sapphire was granting wishes in July 2024, so I shot my shot and asked to intern with her.?
And… she said yes!
Then my Internship Started on August 12th, I got on a call with Ella from her team (my namesake lol) and we basically just discussed about our marketing journey then she asked what I wanted out of the Internship.
And I told her that I wanted the confidence that I could actually write emails and have people read it and take action from it.
So, I was given my first task, which was writing onboarding emails for the LWS brand. A summary of what I had to do was nurture their email list to buy the email marketing crash course.
Submitted my first draft and got on a live call with Dr.Sapphire, and we went through the emails together. She made some corrections, and the emails were approved to go live!
My next task was working on a newsletter launch—researching and writing pre launch and launch emails. Sent them to Dr.Sapphire after I was done, and she made corrections, and it got approved. yayyyy!
Before I get to the challenging part of this internship, I want to talk about my favorite part of this experience.
And that is how passionate Dr.Sapphire is about the growth of her team - Every month we’ve team development materials.
Materials that I couldn’t imagine accessing either because they are expensive or I simply didn't know about them. I get to read newsletters and learn from them; I joined webinars that were valuable.
Now for the challenging part… I had to work on emails for a lawyer. For someone that came into the email marketing world with a focus on e-commerce, writing for service-based was something I was scared of.?
Because it's a lot different from e-commerce. With service-based, you have to actually nurture them with your words. You are not enticing them with any product pictures they may find appealing.
Law in general is something I have zero interest in, but I had to do MAJOR research on this client's audience and write emails that touched their pain points - so I went into this task scared that I wouldn’t be able to do it.? But guess what? I did it and enjoyed the entire process, even the research part.?
Law is not that boring after all.?
Currently, the client has read the first part of the emails and liked it, barring some law-focused corrections.
If you had told me in May that I would be able to write emails to nurture a LAWYER’S audience, I would have said no.?
But now my focus has expanded; before, I was narrowed down to serving only E-commerce brands, but there’s fun in writing for service-based too. I love how conversational it can get.
My internship has set the tone for my 2025 in terms of confidence and skill acquisition.? I know for certain I can write emails, do research, automate emails, and come up with a strategy, and if there’s anything I don’t know, there’s Dr.Sapphire’s community to ask my questions.?
Thank you, Dr. Sapphire, for this opportunity.
You are part of the people that made my 2024 plans come to life. I don’t know if you’ve noticed something about me, but I am a planner; everything I set out to do this year I planned.?
So, thank you, team LWS.”
You’re welcome Emmanuella! The email is already longer than I planned so I’d end it here.
