What's Keeping You From Living the Life of Your Dreams

What's Keeping You From Living the Life of Your Dreams

Are you living the life of your dreams?

I?get it:?

You have a good life.

You have kids, a husband, maybe even a dog.

You take care of other people, driving, cooking, cleaning, serving, loving and doing all the things.

And you're fine.

But are you living the life of your dreams?

What does that even mean?

Who even has dreams when they're driving a minivan back and forth to soccer four times a week?

One thing that I come across with women I?coach again and again is that they don't know?if they're living their dream.

When I ask a simple question:?what do you want?...they don't know.

Can you relate?

There are three things that keep us from having dreams.

One,?we don't even let ourselves dream.

Two,?we get scared and we stay in our comfort zone.

Three,?we tell ourselves stories that someone else is uniquely qualified to do big things...and we're not.

Let's break each of these down.

First, let yourself dream.

We hold ourselves back from dreaming because we're comfortable in the comfort zone,?because of the fear that we might not succeed, and because of imposter syndrome.

The first step to living the life of your dreams is to?let yourself dream.

Let your imagination run wild.?

Ask yourself questions like?'what if...?'

Take the constraints off your thinking.

Your brain loves patterns.

I'm willing to guess that some of us have a pattern that goes something like this:

See someone do something cool that you might like to do.

Immediately think,?I?could never do that/ afford that/succeed at that.

Or,?must be nice for them.

Or,?they have an amazing life/ they're so lucky.

Listen.

What if you changed that thought pattern?

What if, when you saw something that struck you as cool, you asked:

What if I?could do that?

What if I?started working toward that right now?

What could that look like for me?

Is that what I want?

It expands the possibilities.

Let yourself dream.

Let yourself want.

That is the first step to living a life of your dreams.

Second, know that fear is part of growth.

It's going to be scary.

The fear means you're doing something new.

Every time I've done a new thing in my business or my life, I've done it scared.

It doesn't feel easy or comfortable.

There's always a moment where I?wonder,?what did I?get myself into?

I?remember one time I was scheduled to speak at a retreat in Utah.

I'd been super excited to go there and speak, but as it got closer and reality set in, all I?felt was scared.

Then, the morning I was supposed to fly to Salt Lake,?I?misjudged the traffic to the LA airport and missed my flight.

For a moment, as I?cried in the terminal, I was relieved. Maybe I?just wouldn't make it.

I?could get out of it.

I?had an excuse.

I didn't have to do this scary thing.

But what would I miss out on?

I?was so scared.?

But I felt the fear and did it anyway.

I?flew out on a later flight.?

I?spoke at the retreat, met amazing women, and proved to myself,?I?can do hard things.

It's not that it won't be scary.

My experience has been that the fear doesn't go away.

But as you keep growing, what was once hard becomes easy.

What was once super uncomfortable becomes our new comfort zone.

Third, we believe that someone else will do it better.

In this world where anyone can broadcast their voice, their pictures, their ideas, do yours even matter?

Someone else is probably already doing what you want to do.

Why bother?

And yet...

No one can do it just like you.

Your experience–

Your voice–

Your unique you-ness–

It matters.

Whatever you feel called to do, do it.

Don't get trapped in comparison.

I'm sure that everything I've done, someone else has done better.

But I?can't worry about that.

I?have people to reach that need?my?voice.

And there are people that need yours!

Whether it's creating a podcast, writing a book, being an influencer on Instagram, perfecting your chocolate chip cookie recipe, or getting your personal best time in your neighborhood run–your dreams matter.

It matters that YOU dream.

It matters that YOU share.

Your voice, your experiences, your creations, will be just what someone needs (even if the only someone that needs it is you).

So, back to the beginning.

Are you living the life of your dreams?

You start with dreaming and then– get to work.?

Take action.

Do the hard thing.

Stop looking around at what others are doing and do what you feel called to do.

I'm here cheering you on!

And if you need help, or want to talk through what this could look like for you, book a call. Let's talk. https://calendly.com/chanelleneilson30/call-with-chanelle

Relatable article. Someone asked me once “what brings you life?” And I had no idea what that meant, now I understand it as what brings you joy?, what makes you feel excited?, what gives you the feeling of satisfaction and a purpose? Or what might? It’s easy to get sucked into the way things are and not realize that there is more. I’m sure your mission sparks hope in others when they realize that there is.
