What’s Holding You Back?

So many ideas or wishes, but how many times have you completed that challenge? What's held you back in the past?

Last year a client of mine decided she needed a bigger challenge, with some life changes, menopausal approach and overcoming breast cancer, releasing weight and negative head space and making gains in the gym... she signs up for 20 mile hike (with 2 months to train, and yep I said "ok, challenge accepted" while on the inside I'm thinking the same thing you are "what the hell?' right?)

She not only completed it in under 7 hours, but picked 2 for 2024 and well, I'm not above a great challenge and if I'm training her for it. I might as well join her. Now we have 2 weeks before our 1st 20 mile hike of 2024 (Feb 3)!


So, what did you plan to challenge yourself- Physically and Mentally this year?

And What has or is Holding you Back?

Here are 5 that many face:

1) FEAR OF FAILURE (past, present or future)

Fear of failure holds you back because when you’re afraid to fail, you’re afraid to risk anything. Stepping outside your comfort zone isn't easy, I get it! You think stepping away from a salary job (paycheck drops in the bank every 2 weeks) and going into business for myself wasn't a huge step, huge leap of faith? I get it, but what I also know is, if you want the change or the growth, you have to accept the risk. If you always close the door to risk, you also reject the opportunity of growth. The past failures only keep you shackled if you allow them, are you really the same person as you were them or are you ready to be stronger, greater and bring more to those around you?


2) LACK of CONFIDENCE

We live in an age of fake sense of security, the "fake until you make it" look and that can definitely mess with your thoughts and your confidence! If you suffer from a lack of confidence, you will have trouble connecting with others and asking for what you want or the help you need... whether that's for a sale, promotion, help, or with your new weight/health goals.

Trust me, no one shows up perfectly 100% of the time... so instead of worrying about what others are thinking or how they did it; write down and focus on what your WHY is, what your Goals are everyday. When you show up for them, you have already won 50% more than most, when you ask for assistance, the sale, the additional education... you set yourself up for success and more confidence.

** have faith in yourself, believe in yourself (humbly of course) God has created you to do something greater (create a morning Mantra)

** if you don't try, you have already lost

3) Comparison Games

Whether it's starting a business or learning a new skill, you will look at others who are much further down the road from you and expect your results to be?the same or feel you fall short.... trust me I feel you! I got caught up in that also in the corporate world and marketing and as I decided to make a huge shift and leap of faith into Personal Training and wellness. So many out there, she's thinner, cuter, more knowledgeable, the list just keeps growing and is overwhelming.

Something I learned...

1)YOU are YOU and no one else can be you

2) you are someone's cup of tea so speak to the avatar that you connect with or want to connect with (if you are trying to grow your business/team/etc or who you are striving to be similar too)

3) everyone starts somewhere!

4) just because that works for them, doesn't mean that's your path (take away the things that bring value and move on)

4) Procrastination is death

Mental procrastination is just as self-destructive as physical procrastination. While you are putting things off…someone else is stepping up. Trust me I have shorted myself several times over the years with procrastination... "what if I .....", "What if they...."

Procrastination can mask a lack of confidence, or a fear of being wrong or being criticized. Perfectionism makes us slow to start on a new initiative, or begin the next stage because we want to make sure the plan won't fail... so does Jan 2024 look like Jan 2023, 2022?

5) Expecting Instant Results

A lot of times, we expect instant results/gratification for completing small tasks. Remember that anything worth having takes time.

I hate to burst your bubble, but ummm you did not get here overnight, so WHY in the world do we set our selves up for massive let down expecting instant results overnight???

I tell my clients all the time... greatness takes time and you didn't get where you are overnight. The fake, instantaneous world on Social media sets high expectations....ads and celebs touting the "magic purple potion or shot", ad in your feed guaranteeing $12,000 in sales the 1st month. This list goes on and on also, but we have known forever that great things take time ... farming, the light bulb, developing your jump shot, building the top selling website design. Trial and error, time and commitment.... some of your goals will be the same.

But I guarantee you that if they are good goals, they are worth the work and the time commitment.

I refuse to sell you false hope and regained weight, but I do guarantee you that Living Amped isn't easy, but it is so worth it!
