What's happening with IoT and Commercial Real Estate?

Just read this great (very long and comprehensive) report by Deloitte University Press on Smart Buildings, CRE and IoT. So many acronyms ;)

But in all seriousness, they bring out some good points, and some that we don't need to worry about as much. Yes, the IoT is definitely going to add a lot of value to CRE. And yes, the "things" in the Internet of Things produce data. But that doesn't mean that the data is inherently valuable. Nor does it mean that data analysis is inherently valuable as a field or practice. The IoT has the ability to dynamically manage our surroundings, not just observe and analyze them. Technology today does most of our basic data analysis for us, and then acts on it for us. That's where the IoT in CRE needs to get.

Either way, I think it's a great report. They are pointing out a ton of near-term business opportunity, and I love what they are saying about the relationship between IoT and the service economy- this is a huge critical insight.
