1. The nation takes steps targeting global trade protectionism (March 10, 2025）

On Saturday, the Customs Tariff Commission of the State Council announced that starting on March 20, China will levy additional tariffs ranging from 25 percent to 100 percent on selected imports from Canada.

2. China launches offshore drilling project with Indonesia (March 11, 2025）

CNPC Offshore Engineering Company Limited (CPOE), a subsidiary under China National Petroleum Corp, has officially launched its JUB offshore drilling project in Indonesia, marking its first foray into Southeast Asia's offshore drilling services sector.

As the company's largest international contract to date, the project, valued at over 1 billion yuan ($140 million), has a four-year contract term. It represents a significant milestone for China's offshore oil and gas industry, securing a foothold in the international high-end offshore drilling market, it said. Read More.

3. MOC meets Walmart after the retailer asks suppliers to cut prices (March 12, 2025）

China's Ministry of Commerce and other relevant authorities held talks with Walmart Inc. on Tuesday to discuss the US retailer's recent request for price reductions from Chinese suppliers.

Walmart has recently asked some Chinese suppliers for price cuts of up to 10 percent per round of additional tariffs the US government imposes on Chinese goods.

In response to this move, the Beijing-based China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles said in a statement that it will take proactive measures to safeguard the interests of its member companies. Read More.
