I love cooking. I also love eating, which is one of the prime reasons for my inability to find well-fitting breeks in my cupboard - but that's an entirely different story! Enough of my Ronnie-Corbett-esque tangents!
One of my guilty pleasures is watching cooking TV and the array of amazing shows available on YouTube. I really enjoy the wonder of discovering new ingredients or new ways to use simple fare. I also love the blend of food and cultural diversity that goes along with visiting new places and experiencing their food. This passion drives me to travel more and learn more about our world and the people who live in it.
I recently watched Anthony Bourdain's 'Parts Unknown' - an episode where he travels to the UK on the day after the Brexit referendum. The locals views and concerns about the potential benefits and impact of Brexit resonated with me and made me reflect that so much has changed, whilst so much has stayed the same. One of the quotes from the programme struck me:
"These are frightening times for many. The world is changing and there is no stopping those changes. But - in such times, there are always two ways to go; Run and hide. Build walls. Cower in fear and suspicion. Point the finger at our neighbours. Look, like desperate frightened people do, for someone to blame. OR, stand up and try - at least try - to make a better world"
We continue to have so much potential as a country, but we don't always recognise the potential we have, as individuals, as groups and as organisations - large or small. I meet people every day who manage businesses or teams and they've lost their way - sometimes a little, sometimes a lot. Almost always we help them back on track by giving them clarity about what a better world looks like for their life and work - and by helping them to see and achieve that better world. There are still a lot of people, group and organisations who revert to negativity, blame, suspicion, bitterness. This negativity can be endemic and affects everyone, from the small business owner to the Chief Exec of the multi-billion corporate.
