What's the fad about Electric vehicles

Is electric vehicles a new revelation? No, perhaps one of the oldest forms of transport started with an Electric Vehicle way back in 1800 as a hobby project with the then known electric motors and chemical storage tanks, which we call batteries now. The 1st known practical EV was in 1890 a 6-seater 14mph Electric carriage in the USA. Interestingly even then it started as a mass transport!

If this is history, why did this technology lay low for more than a century and importantly what made it re-surface now with such a big fad???

Is it efficient than the Internal combustion - Definitely Yes

Is it easy to design & manufacturer than the Internal combustion - Definitely yes

Is is cleaner than the Internal combustion - May be

Is it a disruptive technology - May be not

Is it a disruptive business model - May be

In essence this meets the definition of disruption in the new era “More the grey area (may), more chances of disruption”

With most of my connections from the EV and EV related domain, I would like to collaborate in unearthing the disruptions in the EV domain and how each of us can benefit…

If you are in game for this.. Lets begin the journey to discovery….

I believe the success of battery-powered mobile phones with touch screens gave the impression that EVs are simply phone extensions with wheels. Acceptance and adoption have been much higher than in the past!

No, the Richmond Streetcar of 1888 (by Frank Julien Sprague) was an earlier practical EV. Since then every subway and elevator have been practical, whereas EV's rolling on tires and reliant on batteries require subsidy, mandates, and media fanfare on account of their inferiority to engine driven transport. To improve transportation (electrically,) there are better ways to start than (all but) copying the car.
