What’s that ‘Extremism’ in You!

What’s that ‘Extremism’ in You!

This morning, I did a big mistake!

Instead of having a cup of coffee peacefully, I chose to pick up my mobile & scrolled through my Twitter! My day began with tweets of loathe, blame & blasphemy probably because twitter has deciphered my interest as ‘political’. Gladly not all tweets were cynical. Some were hopeful, optimistic & kept away from choosing sides. My day got off on the wrong foot but it just popped in my mind that humans have scaled to the highest levels of extremism these days without any sense of it.

?‘Intolerance’ this word was highly politicized few years back. Not sure about the politics but we humans have definitely turned ‘Intolerant’. There is a? war between ‘right ideology’ & ‘wrong ideology’ with the right & the wrong having different meanings with different people!?

The definition of ‘right’ & ‘wrong’ is generally the impression of what your family & community projects. In a quest of proving someone ‘wrong’, the ‘right’ stoops down to the level of mocking the other ideology - a classic example of extreme hatred. Similarly ‘wrong’ is continuously illogical & unnecessarily rigid – a classic example of ignorance.

?

We live in the world of misinformation where we do not take pain to verify the logic of side we are choosing simply due to complexity involved in the research. Also it is damn easy to go with the narrative of the mob & extremely difficult to face the world with eccentric views. This underlines the importance of a good mentor or leader in a society. Just check who are you looking up to? Are you following an extremist? Then the reason of your extremism is obvious.

?

Another reason of this skewness towards extremity is lack of knowledge. We feed on others knowledge & opinions. All these years no one realised that families, communities, newspapers & television news have been feeding their opinions in our minds & we like gullible audience considered their views as ours.

?

If you are reading this, please pause & think of the narratives you have been following blindly & check whether this acceptance rises from validation by your parents, friends or even community. Start with a simple exercise of questioning the origin of your extreme hatred & trust me it will open a whole world of truth & possibilities. Enter into discussions, healthy debates, dialogues to understand the other views & their source! Communication can unravel the unknown!

One might also ponder that the debate of right & wrong is incessant & inconclusive. However, the debate can end for you once you make a well informed choice!

Having said this, extremism can be productive as well. Yeah, the Antagonist can become Protagonist. For instance if your existence & identity has been questioned, one needs extreme thoughts to level up the ground. However, one must be intelligent & balanced enough to keep the extremism in control & in check. It should not turn venomous.

Mind you, opinions change & they should change with time for the health of the nation. Also understanding the real essence behind a certain ideology that was impressed upon you long back, tend to dim over time & what’s left is only extremism!

Just think about it..

So true Yasha Bakshi ... this is the Era of free information and we are lucky to have that... but unfortunately majority is been used for destruction may be ideology, logics, not using brains before following something blindly..... keeping fingers crossed things shall move towards constructive Era soon with though free and easy information but not mis leading ones.... It's shameful to know a single post or information on a scroll can change your years of learnt ethics and culture to a demon ideology. Nicely written ! Yasha Bakshi
