This week I’ve been talking about the?"dream behind the complaint"?with my clients.
What’s that??
Behind every argument,?frustration?or complaint is a hidden dream/agenda that hasn't been met for someone or?yourself.?
For example, you’ve been asked to work late on a pitch, it’s frustrating you because you have already made obligations to your partner. You grin and bear it for the greater good of the team, but somehow your attitude ripples out and you take it out on a colleague on a zoom call.
For the innocent bystander, they are unaware of what’s going on for us, and the causes a domino effect of tension and possible arguments. To solve this it takes time to do some digging to find the other perspective. Asking ‘what’s going on here for you?’ creates an arena for discussion. It’s important then for you to be authentic with your needs and wants and respectful of other peoples’ too.
What dreams haven’t been met for you this week??How did you react?
This has been a time most of my clients are reporting some form of tension, anxiety, or general funky energy at the moment. What happens next is we can move through a cycle of angst and fall into one of four zones of toxic behavior when we don’t feel heard or a desire hasn't been achieved:
