Welcome to my weekly roundup of tidbits from the Australian food industry.
- The Victorian Government and City of Melbourne are launching a $260m scheme dedicated to revitalising the CBD hospitality industry. Patrons will receive rebates of up to $100 for eating and drinking at cafes, bars and restaurants.
- Under Treasurer Josh Frydenberg's 2021-2022 Federal Budget, the government will temporarily lift the 40-hour fortnightly cap on student visa holders working in the hospitality and tourism sector, to alleviate the challenge that operators face in finding skilled employees due to international borders remaining closed until 2022.
- In the wake of a new COVID-19 case in Melbourne this week, Victorian venues and facilities will face a $1,652 on-the-spot fine for flouting QR Code requirements, which are deemed as critical for contact tracing.
- Packaging manufacturer Detpak has announced a strategic partnership with US-based Eco-Products to provide sustainable packaging solutions across Australia and New Zealand.
- You may not be able to travel to the United States right now, however Melbourne's Bowery to Williamsburg paying homage to New York's subway station, has you covered for classic diner eats this weekend. Treat yourself to their fried chicken and waffles. And, mac and cheese with pretzels and pickles. You're welcome.
Bon appétit until next time!
