Welcome to my weekly roundup of tidbits from the Australian food industry.

  • It is timely that Melburnians can now travel to regional Victoria, with Bridgewater Bakehouse in Bridgewater and Bendigo winning the best vanilla slice category in this year's Wotif Uniquely Aussie Awards.
  • ALDI Australia has collaborated with producers and manufacturers to limit its plastic packaging by 2,000 tonnes in one year, focusing on its fresh produce range, since committing in 2019 to reduce its own-label plastic packaging by a quarter come 2025.
  • OmniFoods has launched into Woolworths and select national grocers entirely plant-based pork mince, luncheon and strips made from soy, peas, shiitake mushrooms and rice.
  • From 6pm yesterday, the conditions of entry into foodservice and hospitality venues are aligned across Victoria including patrons and staff over 16 years of age being fully vaccinated, no caps subject to density requirements for indoor dining in spaces greater than 100 square metres and wearing masks inside unless eating or drinking.
  • Every day is World Pasta Day at Da Guido Melbourne with handmade delicacies such as Wagyu beef ravioli accompanied by butter and rosemary sauce. You're welcome.

Buon appetito until next time!
