Welcome to my weekly roundup of tidbits from the Australian food industry.

  • Originating in Vienna Austria, World Egg Day is a global celebration of the humble protein, on the second Friday in October. This year, Australian Eggs is collaborating with Babu Ji in St Kilda Melbourne, Kepos Street Kitchen in Redfern Sydney, Miss Claudes Crepes in Brisbane and Borsa Pasta Cucina in Adelaide to produce egg-oriented home meal kits, available via Deliveroo until today.
  • The two Australian eateries featuring in the 51 to 100 category of this year's World's 50 Best Restaurants, judged by over 1000 industry experts, are Birregurra Victoria's Brae and Ripponlea Melbourne's Attica at numbers 57 and 97 respectively.
  • Albeit Cadbury in the United Kingdom is releasing their inaugural vegan chocolate blocks, including one with salted caramel pieces, Cadbury Australia has no immediate plans to follow suit until they are confident that such a product can deliver the same standard as the original.
  • Coles aspires to be Australia's most sustainable supermarket with a concept store in Moonee Ponds Melbourne offering reusable containers for refill items, herbs in paper rather than plastic packaging, and a coffee cup recycling station to name a few.
  • Paris is always a good idea, as Audrey Hepburn famously touted. With suppliers such as Melbourne's Parisian Baker, Francis Winifred and Queen Victoria Market, create a pop-up bistro at home this weekend complete with pastries, coffee, ranunculus flowers for the table and a cheeky bottle of champagne. You're welcome.

Bon appétit until next time!
