Welcome to my weekly roundup of tidbits from the Australian food industry.

  • Australia's oldest family-owned chocolate company Haigh's is releasing a one-off luxury Advent Calendar for Christmas this year, comprising 24 days of specially curated artisan chocolates in a handcrafted box with gold embossing. The limited edition calendars retailing for $1,075 each, are available for pre-ordered delivery until 8 November.
  • The significance of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste on 29 September is to change the way that food is produced and consumed. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), approximately 14% of food produced globally is lost between harvest and retail, and 17% is wasted across foodservice, retail and homes.
  • Health food company Forbidden Foods has acquired snack company Blue Dinosaur for $4 million to accelerate their global expansion into the growing plant-based food market.
  • Papyrus Australia, a company that creates products from waste materials, is one step closer to producing food packaging from refined banana fibre having lodged a patent application for processing the sustainable derivative.
  • Celebrate because you can this weekend with Grossi a Casa x Providoor's four-course menu of Baccala Mantecato | Whipped Cod, Crostini; Tortellini di Anatra | Duck Tortellini, Caramelised Pear; Guanciale | Beef Cheek, Italian Potatoes; and Tiramisu. You're welcome.

Buon appetito until next time!
