Welcome to my weekly roundup of tidbits from the Australian food industry.

  • Coles Local Camberwell in Melbourne which opened on Wednesday, features the largest range of Australian and imported cheeses at a Coles Local store, complete with resident cheese specialist and fresh bread supplied by local artisan bakeries.
  • Mondelēz International announced today that it has sourced approximately 30 per cent of the recycled plastic required to package its Cadbury Dairy Milk family chocolate blocks, produced in Tasmania and distributed across Australia and New Zealand.
  • Australian mushroom-based meat company Fable Food Co. is putting its latest seed funding towards new product development and international expansion into Asia, the United Kingdom and United States, off the back of foodservice and retail successes in western markets such as Grill'd, Woolworths and Coles.
  • Iconic United States fast food chain Five Guys, handcrafting burgers and fries for 35 years, is opening its first Australian store on Monday in Greater Western Sydney's city of Penrith.
  • Speaking of burgers, treat yourself to one this weekend to celebrate International Cheeseburger Day tomorrow. You're welcome.
