What's in the Brand Name?

Ever been on a brand-name roller coaster? One moment you're thinking, "Wow, that sounds international!" and the next, "Oh, it's as Indian as my grandma's samosas!" There are several Indian brands that have names that sound Western or global, but their full forms or origins are deeply rooted in India.

1. Go Cheese: Sounds like a command to chase cheese, right? But hold on! It's short for Gowardhan Cheese. A brand that's as Indian as the sacred hill in Vrindavan from which it draws its name.

2. PVR Cinemas: The swanky multiplex where you've probably spilt popcorn. PVR stands for Priya Village Roadshow. From a single-screen cinema in Delhi to a national sensation, it's been quite the cinematic journey!

3. MRF: No, it's not a secret code. It stands for Madras Rubber Factory. As rooted in Chennai (formerly Madras) as filter coffee.

4. VIP Luggage: Before you think "Very Important Person", pause! It's short for Vazirally Ilyas & Sons Products. Talk about a royal twist!

5. MTR: The ready-to-eat delights that have saved many from kitchen disasters. MTR is the iconic Mavalli Tiffin Rooms. A taste of Bangalore in every bite.

6. Fevicol: The bond that's stronger than most of my relationships! Derived from "Fevi" (adhesive in Hindi) and "Col" (colloid). Science meets quirk!

7. Rasna: The instant drink of our childhood. "Rasna" is from Sanskrit "Rasāna", meaning "taste" or "essence". A drink that's older in name than in formulation!

8. Rooh Afza: The poetic refresher! In Persian, it translates to "Soul Refresher". A drink that's as refreshing as its name.

9. Nirma: The jingle that's stuck in our heads forever. Named after the founder's daughter, Nirupama. Personal branding level 100!

10. Parle-G: Our beloved biscuit. The "G" stands for "Glucose", but with the genius girl on the pack, it's also our "Genius" snack.

11. Onida: The devilishly good electronics brand. With a devil mascot and the slogan "Neighbor's Envy, Owner's Pride", it's a brand with a cheeky side.

12. Chik Shampoo: Not a chick's shampoo, but named after the founder, C.K. Ranganathan. A personal touch to your hair care!

In the vibrant tapestry of Indian brands, these names stand out, not just for their products but for the chuckles they bring along. So, the next time you pick up a product, give a thought to its name. There might be a delightful story hiding in plain sight!

Branding isn't just about market appeal; it's also about the stories, the history, and sometimes, the giggles. ??
