What's in the Box?
There's that moment in the movie "Seven" where Brad Pitt cries out the infamous phrase, "What's in the box?! What's in the BOX?!"
Then, you hold your breath as the lovely Mr. Pitt discovers what is actually in the box.
[Spoiler alert: It's not good, People. Not good at all.]
The same applies to advertising and marketing on social media. If you are pulling things out of the same box week after week, you're not giving your audience something they have never seen before. You become stale, one of a million ads that they will scroll past that day while looking at what Linda had for lunch or Scott's new kitten photos.
This doesn't mean you have to go over the top and create something that has never been done before, like broadcast your podcast from outer space. It could just mean tweaking your advertising just enough to skew perspective and to see your business in a different light.
For example, if you are an elite luxury brand, try doing something a bit more down to earth to relate to the common folk. Let your employees do some of your branding and marketing via photos or videos. Consider an "on the street" type broadcast via a live feed where you interview members of your community. Take the time to network with other companies and put together a production! Have a restaurant in the area of your dealership? Collaborate with them on a "Cars and Cuisine" type function. Keep it light, fun and in turn, the community will talk about what a great time they had.
While content remains King, word of mouth is still the Queen and she makes the rules.
So, when Morgan Freeman comes running up to you and says, "Don't look in that box, Son", trust me. Don't look in the box. Look next to it. Around it. Look under it. But never, ever look at what is already inside the box.
You've been warned.
