I recently read a lot about AI, VR and Machine Learning but I hadn't heard about Chatbot only until yesterday. Facebook will announce Chat Bot and live chat APIs at F8, Kik launched its bot store on April 5. Telegram Bot platform is already up and running since some time. Microsoft already had to silence its own Bot Tay in Twitter after she turned into a Nazi. According to the Economist (April 8) bots are becoming the next frontier and it questions whether Bots will be the new Apps.
While I was digesting all of this information I immediately started to think whether individuals will start to create their own chat bots. Maybe at start we can use them to reply and engage with useless chat groups (or people we don't care about) or to provide basic comments in Facebook or LinkedIn to share with the audience (you have seen many of them for sure!) or to wish your "friends" automatic happy birthdays (how sad!). As we get more confident about their capabilities and to do exactly what we would do in the same situation (or maybe not) we can assign our bots additional personal digital tasks. At work we could initially set them up for repetitive or lower value tasks (answer emails, prepare weekly reports, etc.) while we personally dedicate more time to higher value activities. Or maybe we could set up our smartphone to route some calls to our bots according to instructions received so we can keep more than one conversation at the same time.
I think there are enormous applications in this area and I have no doubts that AI and Machine Learning are about to explode with immense and still unexplored business opportunities.
What do you think about it? how fast do you think this is about to happen? how will it affect your lives?

8 年Without doubt bots are the new apps. My team is completely hooked onto Slack. We use bots like Ace on slack as our personal assistants, to list out daily tasks, schedule meetings, stand-ups you name it. Even Taco bell is coming out with Tacobot to order tacos

8 年AI is not new and useful applications exist already in many different sectors. This article from Deloitte on cognitive technologies (https://dupress.com/articles/cognitive-technologies-business-applications/#end-notes) is a good read. But to me real progress and excitement is really when we can use this intelligence to address and resolve bigger issues such as extreme poverty, improve healthcare for the underprivileged...and the list can go on. I believe it will happen....with or without chat bots...

8 年Funnily enough, yesterday, I learned for the first time that VR is considered to be the single biggest driver in the growth of data consumption i the future. I hadn't really given it much consideration until yesterday.
