What’s the Best Way to Make Decisions?

I’ve been on a little bit of a journey exploring gut (or intuition) and head (or rational mind). I’ve always seen myself as a “pros & cons” and “think before you leap” sort of person. I saw my intuition as unreliable compared to my rational mind. I mean who can argue against rational facts, right?
I’m beginning to see things differently now. My intuition is an innate part of who I am. It is not inferior to my rational mind. What’s helped me get here so far is understanding that intuition is more than impulse. It is intelligence gained over time, even though it may seem quick when it shows up. Plus, I’ve been using it all along, without even knowing. Being aware of it, just makes it more powerful.
So, back to the original question, “What’s the best way to make decisions?”
That depends. There is a time to rely on your gut and a time to rely on your head. Based on where I am in my discovery journey so far, here’s how I would distinguish it:
Rational mind when:
- It’s a big decision on something my team and I know nothing about
- I need to show facts and evidence for a decision
Gut when:
- I need to make a quick decision
- I have a strong feeling about something even after weighing the pros & cons

I would love to learn from you all. And will keep sharing as I continue my journey!
