What’s the best way to increase productivity? Productivity isn’t a generalist tool. You have to be specific and clear—setting concrete intentions and goals.?
Here are three steps to help you do that quickly and effectively: Declutter, Detangle, Drive.
Step 1. Declutter - Get Crystal Clear
When you’re asking yourself this question, the first thing to consider is: what are you trying to be productive around? Being productive at work is what probably comes up for more people. Or did you mean health goals? Spiritual goals, community goals?
The number one thing is that you have to have clarity. Once you understand what you’re trying to do, you can declutter the competing thoughts and priorities in your mind. It makes you sharp and laser-focused on what you focus your attention on.
Instead of muddy thoughts tumbling in your skull, you shift the spotlight to a specific part of the stage of your mind. People, including yourself, will sway, influence, and distract you. Declutter that head of yours.
When you clear up exactly what productivity increase you’re looking for, you can answer the next question: what are your goals? ?
Step 2. Detangle - Extract Parts from the Whole
Most people get lost in the woods without a flashlight. They lump their goals together, defining them using ambiguous terms. Ambiguity does not leave clues. Differentiating your goals is a key to increasing productivity—and getting out of the woods.
Did you know that there are two different goal types? They are deep goals and sprint goals. Deep goals take many steps to complete and are abstract by nature. Sprint goals are the vehicle to reach your deep goals. They are quantifiable and take one step to complete.?
Separate the parts (sprint goals) from the whole (deep goals). Break apart and convert your deep goals into chunks that are not giant monsters you need to slay.
Detangle your goals. When you extract the parts, the path to reach what you want to accomplish becomes clear. When you know the activities to focus on, you’re ready for a process backed by purpose.?

Step 3. Drive - Use a Daily Process
You need to process. It’s what drives you forward and gives you momentum to keep going. It relieves you from the pain of failure. You won’t manage your time well if you don’t have a daily process. You won’t know how to select the best tasks to reach your goals.?
You’ll be running around, putting out fires from your boss. Your spouse. Your kids. Your dog… not going to know if you’re making progress on what is most important. You’ll be an aimless, flailing soul.
Drive down on your process. Use it to improve how you spend your time. If you're on it or off track, allow yourself to make real-time adjustments. When in doubt, repeat steps one and two.?
Kill It with Triple D
If you want to increase your productivity, you have to know what is MOST important to you. Your values. Your mission. What you’re working towards. When you’re willing to say NO to lukewarm opportunities.?
Declutter, Detangle, and Drive will give you unlimited “killing it” powers.?
You’ll be clear and focused. You’ll manage your time masterfully, increasing your productivity in ANY arena you choose.?
Stay inspired.?
