What's the benefit of posting on LinkedIn?

When I started this journey earlier on in my career I would have never thought of the amazing opportunities that come with being a content creator on LinkedIn.

These are some tips to keep you going on and tidbits on how to avoid burnout as well. Too much of anything can be unhealthy.

Pros of Posting on LinkedIn

  1. Professional Networking: You never know who you are going to meet. There are a lot of incredible people out there.
  2. High Engagement Potential: With 660,872 Impressions, that certainly didn't happen overnight, but it was due to consistency and the commitment to analyzing what's working and what's not resonating as much.
  3. Content Visibility: I notice that, at least for me, if there is an event of vulnerability/ gratitude, those posts tend to do a lot better.
  4. Thought Leadership: Adding value to move the conversation forward. Share regularly about what you are passionate about.
  5. Professional Development: Share the lessons learned from the courses you are taking. Any certifications could inspire someone else to follow a similar path.
  6. Business Opportunities: You never know who you are going to meet. I've been meeting some incredible human beings who are doing exciting things. Shout out to Amber Deibert for being such a connector.

Cons of Posting on LinkedIn

  1. Time-Consuming: With anything, set boundaries so that you don't spend too much time so that more important priorities are reflected.
  2. Algorithm Dependency: You will notice that when you work for large organizations, your posts will show up more often with your coworkers. When you are on your own, that's less likely to show.
  3. Pressure to Maintain Quality: Stop overthinking what to post; sometimes, it will flop, but sometimes, you will meet interesting people who resonate with you. That's how connections can start.
  4. Potential for Negative Feedback: With anything public, you will get a lot of noise, but it's okay; trust your instincts. We all make mistakes.
  5. Overexposure: I notice that if I am overpromoting, the data will show. Just sharing authentically works much better.
  6. Privacy Concerns: Anything can be used against you nowadays, but it's okay. Just set boundaries.

Summary

Posting on LinkedIn offers significant advantages, including professional networking, high engagement potential, enhanced visibility, thought leadership, professional development, and business opportunities. However, it also comes with challenges such as the time commitment required, dependency on algorithm changes, the pressure to maintain quality, potential for negative feedback, risk of overexposure, and privacy concerns. Balancing these pros and cons is key to effectively leveraging LinkedIn for professional growth.
