We often receive feedback from customers to say how much they enjoy our honey, and we also get suggestions on new products people would like to see. One ingredient that comes up time and time again is turmeric. So what’s all the fuss about Turmeric?
The turmeric plant comes from Southeast Asia and has been used Ayurvedic and Chinese medicines for centuries. It is a bright yellow spice that many of us will be familiar with as a common ingredient in curry recipes and other Indian foods. When you break open an onion bhaji that bright yellow colour comes from turmeric. Turmeric is from the same spice family as ginger and both are believed to share similar anti-inflammatory effects, and is used in remedies to treat conditions such as arthritis and painful joints.
Several high-quality studies show that turmeric has major benefits for your body and brain and many of these benefits come from its main active ingredient, curcumin (just google it!). We carried out market research with our customers and found that many already taking turmeric supplements to help with various conditions. After experimenting with turmeric mixed into some of our honey, we realised that it tastes really good too. We had to develop this into a product!
After months of trialling various turmeric powders and extracts, we finally landed on an a high concentrate extract which blends well into our honey. High concentrate means that you get much more turmeric and curcumin than the powdered spice in your kitchen cupboard. The extract base is vegetable glycerine, which contains fat and means it is more easily absorbed into your body.?As you’ll know, we like to supercharge all our products with health benefits, so we also add Vitamins D and C, which support cartilage and bone health too.?

Aside from the health benefits, we love how the spicy turmeric balances so well with the sweetness of our wildflower honey. The best way to eat Turmeric+ Honey is as a turmeric latte – stirred in hot water or hot milk, drizzled over porridge or yoghurt or straight off the spoon! It’s also pretty tasty on roasted root veg – perfect for this time of year ??
Turmeric+ Honey launched at the end of September. Check out our website for more details!
