Building upon the successes of 2023, the year 2024 will undoubtedly be an eventful and intensive period for both the European Union as a whole, as well as for Blue Door Consulting.

The Blue Door is always open
On a daily basis, we will continue our work to help?the private sector across Europe to take advantage of so far untapped opportunities within the frameworks of the European Union presented by both relevant funding options, as well as developing cooperation with decision-makers at European Union and Member State level.

We are also continuously expanding our partner network, including stakeholders not only from EU Member States, but also the UK, the Western Balkans and Ukraine - and beyond. This way we can help all interested entities enter meaningful partnerships and develop fruitful cooperation within the framework of various direct EU funds.

Navigating the maze
We are already seeing growing interest from the Hungarian private sector to be represented vis-à-vis the EU institutions in Brussels regarding issues that are directly affecting their industries. As one of our core missions, we will continue our efforts to give a voice to stakeholders from Central and Eastern Europe in Brussels and help them to ‘navigate the maze’ in order to ensure that their interests are appropriately represented.?

So, what exactly is going on in 2024?
2024 – Changing the guard
2024 is the year of elections, not just in the EU, but across the globe, which will have profound impact on our futures.
In early June 2024 the European Parliament elections will take place, which provides the opportunity to EU citizens to directly elect their representatives at the European Parliament, which also allows them to have a say regarding the future of Europe.
Furthermore, the term of the current European Commission ends (foreseeably) on 31 October 2024. The newly elected Members of the European Parliament will get to grill nominated candidates in hearings and vote on the composition of the College as a whole, in order for the new College of Commissioners to take office.
How will the 2024 elections impact businesses and EU funding across the EU?
With the new composition of the European Parliament and European Commission, the top priorities of the EU might alter. The change in priorities influences the objectives of available EU funds and their scope. Businesses will need to keep an eye on the results of the elections, as well as relevant policy developments, because they can impact the business and regulatory environments, as well as the objectives of respective funding opportunities in different industries.
A long-awaited opportunity for Hungarian businesses
For the first time since 2011 Hungary will be taking over the rotating Presidency of the European Union on 1 July 2024 (from Belgium) - coming right after marking the 20th anniversary of Hungary joining the European Union as a Member State on 1 May, 2004. This means that Hungary will have an important role as a mediator when it comes to finding agreement and compromises on different policy files, as well as a facilitator when decisions need to be made on the new leadership at the helm of EU institutions.
For the private sector this is also an excellent opportunity to build relationships and engage with decision-makers more actively, whilst also expanding their network across Europe.
