This question will remain constant for one of the hottest AI companies on the planet. In the latest episode of ‘Unconfuse Me with Bill Gates’, OpenAI chief Sam Altman pointed out that the company is on ‘this long, continuous curve’ to create newer and better models – making it as good as its next model.
Altman highlighted the key aspect of GPT-5, or rather upcoming models, as to how it would enable these to process video input and generate new videos. Talking about how AI agents will help users write the whole program, he said that AI will be able to handle more complex tasks and improve productivity significantly.?
“Someday, maybe there’s an AI to which you can say, ‘Start and run this company for me’. And then someday, there may be an AI to which you can say, ‘Go discover new Physics [laws] for me’,” he quipped.
Altman also spoke at length about GPT-5, emphasising on customisation and personalisation. “The ability to know about you, your email, your calendar, how you like appointments booked, connected to other outside data sources—all of that. Those will be some of the most important areas of improvement,” said Altman.?
While OpenAI is focused on building better and newer models, it is looking to expand the use cases of its technologies to verticals like coding, healthcare and education. “Coding is probably the only area where we’re most excited about productivity gain today. It’s deployed massively and used at scale at this point. Healthcare and education are also coming up that curve, and we’re very excited about them too,” said Altman.?

Subbarao’s AI-cents?
AIM got in touch with Subbarao Kambhampati, professor of AI at Arizona State University, and asked him what he loves about the latest advancements in AI and what gets his goat.?
The problem that Kambhampati pointed out is that today everybody thinks they’re an AI expert as the barrier to entry to becoming an AI ethicist or voice for responsible AI has been lowered. “I open my LinkedIn and everyone is talking about LLMs, touting responsible AI as the focal point,” Kambhampati laughed.?
