I write this from the Palo Alto Cafe— a coffee shop filled with old-school charm in a town seemingly devoid of that. Not that PA isn't nice, it's just nice in a very new-school kind of way. It's been a wild, wild week. I've bounced back and forth between San Fransisco and Palo Alto. It honestly feels more like two weeks since I last wrote.
- I got to Palo Alto last Wednesday and got to hang with my friend Iz and her roomies who go to school out here! Palo Alto, minus the lack of old-school charm, is actually pretty sweet. There are fruit trees EVERYWHERE! I consumed two new fruits this week: First, I beckoned a persimmon from a stranger who was picking them in the park. Second, I tried a passionfruit because there is a vine of them that grow in Iz's front yard. In my opinion, Passionfruit > Persimmon. Both cool, though.
- Thoughts on SF: Unlike LA, I totally understand why people live here and why it's one of the most expensive places to live in the world. It's beautiful, hilly, the people are kind, and it's dense in a way that a lot of US cities aren't. What I would GIVE to teleport to SF in the 70's.
- This morning, I met with the folks at AeroPress! We made coffee, threw a ZipChip, they gave me an Aerobie signed by Alan Adler, and most importantly, I was able to give a letter to Alan Adler's granddaughter who works at the office. At this point, I think I've done everything I can do to meet the man. So if it happens, awesome, and if not, hey— that's how the cookie crumbles. They will see each other during thanksgiving, so I'll probably stick around the bay for a few days in case some magic happens.
- Super exciting news: my old high school baseball coach (and founder of Custom Patch Hats) Scott Alexander is sponsoring DSO! We're going to get some headbands, dishtowels, and patches made. One thing I'd LOVE some help with is input on a logo. My friend is making some designs, and this is a 1 question survey on which color scheme you think is cool. Thanks to those who answer!
- DSO work this week has been frustrating in the worst kind of ways— mostly due to troubles with internet and uploading and software stuff that just takes forever and makes you feel like you're spinning your wheels. We grinding through though, baby!! Can't stop, won't stop, should stop, might stop, won't stop!
Things Worth Checking Out:
- I'm releasing this to the rest of the world tomorrow, but for WNW folks I can't contain this anymore. It might be my most proud video to date. I made it for Nude Foods Market out of Boulder. Huge thanks to my friend Erik Fellenstein for helping me film, and Alek Seballes for helping me blur it all out.
- In 1987, they hired someone to dress like George Washington and throw an Aerobie with a silver dollar taped to it across the Potomac River. That sentence reads like a Mad Lib.
San Fransisco at Sunset. #sheeesh.
Some of you may have heard this song, but it came on this morning during my drive to AeroPress HQ and it just hit. I LOVE when a song makes you wait for it & Hannah Hunt does just that. One of the hardest soft drops in the game.
Until next week friends (and HAPPY THANKSGIVING ?? ????),
PS: If any of this is moderately interesting/valuable and you want to forward it to someone you know, that's kind and it helps the project grow!??
Sending all the good vibes out into the universe for you to finally meet Alan Adler, Drew! In a world of often overpriced and overhyped coffee tools, the AeroPress delivers an affordable and delicious cup every time.
