Part 2a - What YouTube looks for
In my last article I covered why you shouldn’t just guess at which videos to make, and I mentioned that there are ways to find out exactly which videos to make that will actually get seen. In future articles I will be detailing exactly how to do this.
There are four primary key steps involved in getting your videos seen, and in your channel gaining authority. Why is it important for your channel to have authority? Because the higher that YouTube perceives your channel authority, the more chances you have to rank for the more competitive higher search volume keywords. In other words to get your videos seen by many more people based on their searches.
The Four Major Steps:
1) Research to find out what is being searched for that you can compete for, as covered in my last article, and to be expanded upon and detailed in future articles.
2) Create video content for what people are actually looking for. And also for what YouTube is looking for, as I'll cover below.
3) Publish your videos.
4) Promote your videos.
All 4 steps need to be optimized, and that's what I'll be covering in this series of articles.
So what are the primary metrics that YouTube looks for?
The first two and the last are self-explanatory, but what is meant by engagement when it comes to a YouTube video? It's the numbers of likes, shares, comments, and also clicks on such things as info and end cards like those below. You are using info and end cards, right?
There are ways to get more of all of these engagements, and I'll go into more detail on this in my next article, as well as cover the ideal structure for videos in order to increase views, watch time, engagement and subscribers.
This is especially important if your channel is small or unoptimized, or hasn't gained authority yet.
