With 2019 in the rear-view mirror and a new decade on the horizon, what is your Vision for 2020?
Consider this: 2020 is the only year that all of us will have 20/20 Vision – the ability to see things clearly. As singer Johnny Nash says, “I can see clearly now the rain is gone; I can see all obstacles in my way?”
What are your plans? Are you planning to enter the new year, and decade, with foggy eyes, or do you have a clear vision of where you would like to be? Are you ready to leave all your baggage behind and turn defeat into victory in 2020?
I am ready...
My own professional development starts with the Let's GROW Visioning event am hosting on January 11, to commemorate the10th anniversary of helping women move forward one step at a time.
I already have my ticket to attend Future Skills: A Conversation with President Barack Obama, on January 23, in Toronto. Yes!!! In addition, I have identified three conferences to attend between January and April - CANNEXUS 2020 in Ottawa, ICF Toronto Vision 2020, and Career Thought Leaders in Philadelphia. It's important that I lead by example and walk-the-talk. After all, I cannot ask my clients (or my children for that matter), to engage in professional development if I am not willing to do the same.
With all that, am asking you to think seriously of what you would like 2020, and the next decade, to look like for you. Keep in mind that:
- "It’s never too late for you to start a new career."
- "It’s never too late to start doing what you feel you’re called to do."
- "It’s never too late to start living your purpose and passion."
To help you reflect on the possibilities that a new year and a new decade can bring, I have assembled 20 motivational quotes that I hope will inspire you to take action and grow:
- “The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” ~ Unknown
- "Choose people who lift you up." ~ Michelle Obama
- “Never doubt yourself. You are capable of so much more than you think.” ~Anonymous
- “You are your biggest advocate when it comes to your career. Don’t wait on anyone to advocate for you!”
- “You can’t soar with the eagles if you’re running with the turkeys.” ~Anonymous
- “If you run you stand a chance of losing, but if you don’t run you’ve already lost.” ~Barack Obama
- “Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than one with all the facts.” ~Albert Einstein
- “No matter what, people grow. If you choose not to grow, you're staying in a small box with a small mindset. People who win go outside of that box.” ~Warren Buffett
- “Growth is a decision we have to make again and again even when fear raises its head to stop us.” ~Daisy Wright
- “Never let small minds convince you that your dreams are too big.” ~Warren Buffett
- “I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand.” ~Og Madino
- “There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure.” ~Paulo Coelho
- “You are under no obligation to be the same person you were a year ago, a month or even 15 minutes ago. You have the right to GROW. No apologies!” ~Unknown
- “If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.” ~Gail Sheehy
- "Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe." ~Oprah Winfrey
- “The greatest success we'll know, is helping others succeed and grow." ~Greg Reid
- “Every obstacle, every victory, every moment, is an opportunity to grow.” ~Anonymous
- “The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams." ~Oprah Winfrey
- “A lot of people have dreams and never do anything about them. When you have ideas and dreams, you do something about it." ~Paul Newman
- “Let your dreams be bigger than your fears and your actions be louder than your words." ~ Junina Pulido
Seize the opportunity that 2020 brings - an ability to gain perfect, 20/20 vision - then enjoy my version of Johnny Nash's I Can See Clearly Now:
I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny YEAR!
Finally, let me encourage you to commit to doing something each day that will take you closer to your goal. I am with you!
