??WHAT ARE YOUR VALUES??

??WHAT ARE YOUR VALUES??

Have you been offered jobs and because of your values you have turned them down or have you had to do them anyway because you need the money?

Over the past couple of years, many have found it tough to survive and things are getting harder every day, but where are you now in this regard?

Most of what we do in life is based on our values and beliefs, values are guides to human behavior, and are crucial for ethical decision-making.

You could say it is what makes your life meaningful, but to do that we have to move away from short-term satisfaction to long-term fulfillment.?

Abraham Maslow, the groundbreaking psychologist responsible for the hierarchy of needs, also noted that values are an integral part of self-actualization. So values are a crucial foundation for living a life of purpose.?

Einstein said that values are the qualities that, deep within, are most meaningful. And that in some ways there is nothing more powerful.?

They are a crucial foundation to living a life of purpose, and a compass to guide through highs and lows. The trouble is, if you don’t choose your values, they’ll be chosen for you.

Figuring out what yours are will help you set fulfilling goals.

  1. What’s truly meaningful to you??
  2. What qualities do you wish to cultivate??
  3. How do you want to live your life?

With the chaotic and confusing world, we live in it may well be important to stop and take time out to focus and to improve, attention, energy, work-life balance, and emotions so that you can tune into who you really are and your own values.

I spend time out in the morning after about 5.30 a.m. to meditate on such things and with social media, celebrity worship, hyper-capitalism, and other areas that can take up your attention you find a breeding ground for what Johann Hari refers to as “junk values” if you do not stop and take time out to take control.

In my work, there are one or two things that cross the line for me and my values but I wonder what stops you from taking on work, is it around the values you currently hold?

In an ideal world, we should be able to pick and choose what we do but as I say financial concerns may affect your decision-making.

I hope you found this subject interesting and I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings about it.

Cheers

Gary
