What are your throughlines?

We are who we are. While life's experiences will cause us to change and evolve, some aspects of ourselves remain the same. In many circumstances, this is a good thing. We can feel grounded and reassured that we know who we are and have the opportunity to live the life that's right for us. In other instances, our throughlines might not be what's best for us. Today, I invite you to consider what's true for you.

When looking to grow in our careers, it's common to reflect on the past and identify the consistent threads that we've woven into each experience. Maybe we've loved problem-solving, writing, or connecting with others. In each instance, we can pinpoint moments where we carried it through. These positive throughlines can help us understand ourselves and strategize what we need in the future in order to be happy.

However, sometimes our throughlines can hold us back. Maybe we doubt ourselves, consistently pursuing opportunities that we deem "safe," but unfulfilling. Maybe we focus too much on others, allowing their priorities to take the place of our own. Maybe we take on work that we can do because we're good at it, rather than work we want to do because we love it. You get the idea.

My guess is that we all have a mix of the two. Some positive throughlines that we need to understand and give more space to grow. Some negative throughlines that we need to understand and take the time to shrink. Today, I hope you take a few minutes to consider what's true for you.

While it may be true that 'we are who we are', it's also true that we have a say in whom we become. I hope you choose to become the best and happiest version of yourself.

Self-reflection:

What are your throughlines?

Which throughlines are positive and which hold you back?

How might you start to grow some and shrink others?

Who do you want to become?
