What are your superpowers?

A few weeks ago, I was working with a coach when she said, "You know, [xyz] is one of your superpowers." She then explained why she thought so and why my superpowers made a difference in my work. I was both flattered and floored. Flattered because it's nice to be told you have superpowers. Floored because I didn't think what I was doing was particularly special. I was doing what seemed logical and natural to me. Superpower? I've continued to ponder this ever since.
Today, I invite you to ponder the same question: what are your superpowers?
As was true for me, it might not be a question you can answer by yourself. All too often, the things that make us extraordinary are innate to us; they are part of our default network. They are simply the way we are. However, it's important to remember that each of us espouses incredible gifts and talents because of who we are. Each of us has superpowers because of our uniqueness.
I invite you to reflect on your life and think about times when people gave you positive feedback. Consider what they noticed and applauded you for. It's possible you brushed off the compliment or assumed that others were told the same thing. Today, accept the feedback as your own. Reframe it as a superpower. Then, identify opportunities to share your superpowers in service of others.
Our society is fascinated with superheroes on the big screen. Do everyone a favor and bring your superpowers into the real world. You never know what difference you could make.
Self-reflection:
What comes naturally to you?
What are you particularly good at?
What do people recognize you for?
What are your superpowers?
I advise and coach CEOs, Managing Directors, and their teams and boards.
1 年“Kindness is a superpower.” Indeed, it is. And the funny thing is, anyone can have that as a super power. You don’t even need to be bitten by a radioactive spider! ??

1 年Ok, I’ll bite. The superpower I’ll brag about today is an ability to weave together constituent stakeholders (both visible and those who are seemingly incongruent) into a cohesive whole. I do this daily in my consultancy that serves as the knot in a bow tie between opportunities and folks who benefit from same. Anyone reading this post is welcome to DM me to further discuss how I do this. Last, but not least, to all the dads out there, have a joyous Fathers Day!
