What is your story?
All of us tell stories about ourselves. When we want someone to know us, we share stories of our childhoods, our families, our school years, career, our political views, and so on. A story is a like a seed, it carries a power which is mysterious, potent, and continuing. Stories are powerful, a great story weaves together different elements that can make it very captivating.
People love good stories, that is why the global film industry is worth over $136 billion. It is why streaming giants like Netflix and Disney Plus have managed to grow and expand. It is also why personal bloggers on YouTube and other social media platforms find success by curating their stories online. Story telling dominates our thinking and from a neuroscience point of view, the brain has a lot going on. It is estimated that it processes 11 million bits of information per second. The conscious mind processes 50 bits per second. Every second of our lives, we are dealing with internal and external information. We are now bombarded with information, vying for that precious and finite resource, our attention.

Our careers need to create and tell a story that resonates and helps us believe in ourselves. Most of us experience the transition to a new working life as a time of confusion, loss, insecurity, and uncertainty. Without a compelling story that lends meaning, unity, and purpose to our lives, we feel lost and rudderless. We need a good story to reassure us that our plans make sense, in moving on, we are not discarding everything we have worked so hard to accomplish and selfishly putting family and livelihood at risk. It will give us motivation and help us endure frustration, suffering, and hard work.
Stories define us, the experiences that have shaped, the trials and turning point. Our story is one of the most valuable tools and have the power to break down barriers. Through our stories, we find a common ground, inspiration, hope, meaning, and, ultimately, action. ?We all have a story, and through sharing our very own, we can change the world.
