Update to: What is your “Story”

Just as Philip had shared and predicted with me well over a month ago, Eliud has done what a human was never planned to achieve (see link below)!
Congratulations Eliud, and to you Philip for that opportunity to meet you, develop a friendship, and most importantly, connect as friends!

It is always amazing to me when you take the time to listen to someone’s “Story”, and what you learn after speaking with that individual. I had such a conversation with an individual who is contracted thru TLC (Temporary Day Laborer) working on Building A, Uptown Multi-Family Project for Ryan. I took the time this morning to visit with and introduce myself to Philip Lagat (Kipchoge) (see above picture). Thru my short discussion with Philip, he stated his family is from Kenya. Then, he said, “I come from a family “rich and deep in athletics”. I said to him, “you can tell by my shape and size I don’t share that same rich tradition”. He and I laughed. Come to find out, his younger brother, Eliud Kipchoge holds several World Records, including an Olympic Gold Medal, and the 2018 World Marathon Record, and is prepared to break it again in the coming days for in an International Marathon oversees.
Additionally, Philip holds the 2014 5,000 meter Marathon Record in Kenya. While giggling a little, he says “my younger brother Eliud continues to break my records in Kenya”. While this is not a construction related story necessarily, it was great to be next to someone in an unassuming position who in my mind “is truly great” not based purely on what he and his family have achieved athletically, but how overwhelmingly humble he was in our conversation. Philip truly represents a humbleness and an unassuming work ethic that we all should try and emulate.
If you didn’t take the time to speak with him, in passing he would just say to you, “hello”, “good morning”, or “good afternoon”, not “let me tell who I am, and who I’m related to.
I’m glad I was able to meet him, take the time for a quick discussion, and I feel like I have made a connection with a great person today! Who will you stop and talk to today?
