What are your sources of sourcing a source ?

Knowing a right source for sourcing a right source for your team is as important as having right match. But how do you know which source to use for which all requirements !

Hi, My Name is Anil and this article, I would be focusing on unpaid sources and tricks on paid sources to use to source for Technical and Nontechnical sourcing for free. Before deciding which source to use we should know what is our requirement ? Whether we are hiring for Domestic or Internationally, Tech or Nontech requirement and on what particular skill set.

1. X-Ray search, (Type of source - Free) also known as Boolean search, is a method we use to locate highly relevant and precise results from websites by combining phrases, keywords, and symbols into the search bar. ... Google X-Ray is popular in recruitment, with Boolean search being a powerful tool for effective candidate sourcing.

The source is used for both Tech & Non-tech hiring from different websites. Through Google X ray search we can reach to unlimited numbers of candidates for free on different sites without being blocked.

One has to be very creative while creating syntax for search. For me finding KEYWORDS or creating SYNTAX is nothing but level of your thinking and how creatively one can refine search to reach maximum and accurate results.

For Example - If, I want to hire someone from LinkedIn but i have been blocked to look more people for free and being asked for premium account or to buy LinkedIn Recruiter in this case I would go for X Ray search and here is how i make syntax for a position below. Note - You have to keep changing your search to maximise results.

You can simply do this by entering “site:nameofwebsite + your boolean search string” in a search engine. There’s an example below.

site:linkedin.com/in AND java AND Php AND (Seattle OR Redmond OR Bellevue) just copy and paste it on search engine url.

Below is Non tech search SYNTAX that i have recently used for hiring.

site:linkedin.com/in (mumbai) (sales)(IVD|vitro|biochemistry|diagnostic|hematology|Clinical Chemistry|biochemistry|Immunoassay|analyzer|"diagnostics machine"|hemostasis|Immunology) -inurl(dir|directory|jobs|jobs2|groups|company)

I have replaced OR by | .

This way you can reach to any particular source to connect candidates. Below is list of Sites One can use to connect candidates via Google X ray search.

Github "for Technical hiring" you and I might use the likes of Facebook and Twitter to share articles or photos, developers use GitHub to share open-source development projects they’re working on. Most developers don't have account on Linkedin or might not be active on Linkedin.

Dribbble "for Technical hiring" is an online community for designers to showcase their portfolios, and may include web designers, graphic designers, illustrators, icon artists, typographers, logo designers, and other creative talent. It allows candidates to demonstrate their talent and projects, as opposed to their resume-writing skills, so the designer’s work can speak for itself.

Stack Overflow "for Technical hiring" is the largest, most trusted online community for developers to learn and share their knowledge. Basically, Stack Overflow is a Q&A site. It is a place where developers post their programming-related questions and coding problems hoping that other developers will be able to help them.

LinkedIn "for Technical and Nontechnical hiring" You can use LinkedIn for all type of hiring except Blue-collar worker.

Xing "for Technical and Nontechnical hiring" is Germany’s favoured professional networking site and has over 11 million members from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. If you’re ever looking to fill a brief with fluent German as the main requirement, why not look to the place where Germans hang out?! Anyone recruiting in the DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) region, or hunting for German language candidates are probably wasting their efforts in looking on LinkedIn. That is because the most popular professional social network in DACH is Xing.com. You know what they say, fish where the fish hang out!

While LinkedIn is catching up on Xing (it boasts 3.7 million members in Germany, 540k members in Austria and 1.4 million in Switzerland) Xing is by far the most active and popular (Xing has 6.5 million members in the DACH region. It’s the 14th most visited site in Germany, compared to LinkedIn’s spot at 32).

Twitter An alternative to Twitter’s advanced search is using Google to find candidates. Boolean search strings help you scan Twitter to identify professionals with your desired criteria. For example, a simple search for mobile developers in Boston with experience in Swift, could look like this:

Instagram - Create a really simple Boolean search string containing all of the elements you’re looking for. For example, if I was creating an x-ray Boolean string to look for a Content Marketing Executive in New York City, it might look something like this:

site:instagram.com (“content marketing” OR “inbound marketing” OR “content writer” OR “content executive” OR “inbound executive”) (“new york” OR nyc)

2 - Quora - It is basically a Q&A site and you can follow candidates and professionals and connect them on different sites like LinkedIn. We can see the real level of knowledge one has by their answers on particular topic.

3. Pinterest - Searching on Pinterest is a little different to what recruiters are used to. On Pinterest, you search for ‘pins’. You cannot search for people by typing in a skill or job title. Pinterest will show you a pin or a collection of pins (pin board) based on the keywords you type in. So it’s time to get smart and use your recruitment skills to find the information you want.

The social media site is teeming with professionals from industries like:

  • Education
  • Design
  • Food and Hospitality
  • Retail
  • Tourism & Travel
  • Web Design

Popular amongst users like:

  1. Interior Design
  2. Arts & Crafts
  3. Fashion
  4. Food
  5. Inspiration/Education

4. Facebook It helps in all sort of hiring Blue and white collar hiring. You can make page of your company and start posting jobs with creative. Although not typically seen as a recruiting platform, Facebook offers some unique search features that allow recruiters to perform highly targeted candidate searches. Once you’ve identified a high-quality candidate—shoot them a message! This isn’t a tactic that will work in every instance, so use it sparingly. Explain that you don’t typically reach out to candidates through Facebook, but that you have the perfect opportunity for them. The number of positive responses you receive might surprise you.

5. Google play store - If you need candidate from Application company Probably this trick can help you. I have used Play store as to do market map many a times. We can find similar companies in suggestion which are in same industry we are actually hiring for.

6. YouTube internet giant has been around for a while now. Other than branding we can use YouTube for hiring. Broadcasting company culture. Share employee testimonials to attract more job seekers. Share opportunity. You can share those videos to your other social and professional sites.

These are some of Social and professional sources we can use other than Olx, Quikr platforms which we use for Blue collar hiring specifically. Hence i have not included these.

Would be focusing on Next article on AI Sources.

Thanks - Anil sharma
