What Is Your Singular Work?

Not everyone is interested in developing & representing what I call Your Singular Work.

(Singular: exceptional, rare, unique)

I’m well aware of that.

I’m open to curiosity, but not militant defiance or haughtiness.

You can find someone else to hate follow :)

In 2017, when I was in the nascent stages of talking about Your Singular Work, I was shocked by the push back in this industry:

“I don’t need to know my work”

“I don’t have to know my process & approach; I just intuit it”

“I don’t need to follow any steps”

“You have to experience it”

“It’s me; it’s what I bring to it.”

Funny, I never mention “steps” or “lists” or linear this-or-that, but people love to project & fill in their own sh*t. Tells me more about their thinking & background than anything. Also, if you think it’s ALL ABOUT YOU and “your authenticity” & personality, then we’re definitely not a match. (Covert) Narcissists exit

The push back has at times been more dramatic than when I was talking about financial trauma, and I was getting kicked out of groups for being “low vibe” for doing so.

Any artist, thinker, scientist, engineer, creative, etc worth their salt is typically more than happy to respond to this questions:

What is Your Singular Work?

What is your approach?

It’s the first question you are asked when you mention you are an artist, writer, performer, etc. Most are excited to share.

When an artist’s work is referenced in the art world and other circles, it is typically referred to as (person’s name) singular work. There’s a lot that goes into one’s singular work which involves an integration of one’s singular gifts/lens, experiences, influences, formal and informal education, expertise, experience & background, paradigm, training, which is given form through what I call Your Singular Work.

It is far from being linear, a framework, superficial, step-by-step paint-by-numbers, or something you copy.

My work is NOT on the market anywhere else.

It comes from my own experience working in a variety of creative industries, being a practicing & exhibiting artist, doing 100’s of studio visits and gallery show viewings, talking to artists and creatives, studying & learning about artists, creatives, thinkers, writers, etc.

It’s not easy actually.

It can’t be answered through a profile.

Or a reading.

I don’t tell you what your gifts or genius is.

It requires your attention & TOTALITY, which most are not willing to give.

It’s about APPLICATION — not just concepts, theories, ideations, or, worse case scenario, word salads, platitudes, generic language & tropes, behind which too many hide.

You must engage with it, with rigor.

Why my clients work with me a minimum of 6 months and others are on year 2…

Because they learn & experience just how deep this goes, and in the best way.

It can be very challenging at times and in different ways, as it will call on you to confront all the ways you don’t allow yourself to lead from your singular gifts/lens; how you unconsciously hide; how you stay committed to surface ideas & expressions because you believe it will keep you safe in others’ acceptance, understanding, or approval; how you let money manipulate & control you, causing you to compromise; how little value & attention you really give yourself when it comes to understanding how you think & see on a critical level and in the context of Your Singular Work.

Im here for people who value strong work — both their own and that of others. These people are why I moved to London, NYC, Berlin. I move to be with them. I follow them and their work to learn from them, even if and especially when their work is nothing seemingly close to my own, and to share ideas. I feel deeply connected to people who take interest in their work because it signals something important to me: depth, commitment, sensitivity, courage, & altruism.

They take the risk of a lifetime, which is to actualize and give form to their singular gifts & “voice” through the dynamism & power of what I call Your Singular Work, so they can be truly seen & heard in order to reshape the way we see, do, think, and approach things.

“I follow my intuition” won’t cut it in my world.

We all have intuition (many actually confuse their programming as intuition without recognizing it).

If a person doesn’t care, they don’t care.

I would rather not be made to pay attention to their defiance because I’m not here to win them over or convince them.

There are plenty of people who make money selling other people’s/companies’ products, working for others, even copying other people’s work. That’s how the majority are programmed to operate. I’m not casting shade on those people, nor am I talking to them.

People who value developing and representing what I call Your Singular Work understand the value of it. They are curious, interested, committed in an entirely different way.

They are answering something much bigger than them.

Your Singular Work is bigger than you.

I’m here for the select group of people who already know it’s important to them.

That’s how marketing works, you see.

I talk to those who have similar values, desires, interests & aims.
