What Is Your Risk?

What Is Your Risk?

Today I spent time with a group who meet regularly focused on ways to mitigate wildfires, a growing issue worldwide. My initial reason for joining this group 5 months ago was Devorto, a startup I am part of that is developing an aviation device that never has to land, and designed to hover at 12 miles above earth with satellite technology that could include cameras and sensors to detect wildfires as soon as they start.

You will hear more about Devorto in future Newsletters. But the reason for the background on Devorto today is that at today's group meeting for wildfire mitigation, I learned of a valuable tool for those who live in the USA when it comes to understanding natural risks of all kinds from wildfire to volcanic and a dozen more.

For those interested in seeing what their risks are based on geography, FEMA has an on-line National Risk Index Map that is filled with valuable information. I found this tool very helpful when looking at the regions where wildfire technologies could be best deployed. You can click above to access the map.

Tools like these can be useful, but I am reminded of weather the past month in California where I live. We went from drought conditions to 50 feet of snow in our mountains. Maps can't predict all outcomes. We live on a dynamic planet.

I want to thank everyone who subscribed to this Newsletter. Next week I want to talk about moonshots that can positively impact our planet.

Have a great weekend!

Hello Mark, I've read about your participation in Devorta. I do applaud your choice of startups to work with. Both natural and man-made disasters is an increasing and more frequent problem. iPowerup mitigates and can save lives because of that infrastructure failure. This technology addresses the people side. www.iowerup.com

Crazy SoCal weather. I've been enjoying it, but my sympathies to those who are snowed in.

Appreciate the importance of early detection - In 1993 had to abandon my home in Laguna Beach. When the Santa Ana's are blowing 40 MPH you also need a method to put it out quickly one detected
