What is Your Question?

Christianity is one of a few religions that encourage people to ask questions. In fact, by asking questions and more importantly the right questions, is what has propelled man to the position of advancement we find ourselves in today. A questioning mind, an enquiring heart, and a curious attitude have brought us into a wealth of knowledge and understanding. Can you imagine for a moment if man was totally content with who he was and how he lived way back in time, we probably would never be where we are today. It is the search, questions and the enquiring heart that has allowed us to discover more and more that was once believed to be impossible. Some religions stop anyone from inquiring, asking question and getting to the bottom of anything pertaining to the religion.

Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.”

Their stance is that there needs to be a respect for what ‘god’ says and what his servants impart to the rest of the people who follow that sect. Christianity on the other hand invites everyone to ask the nagging questions that we probably avoid dealing with. You see when you receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you don’t throw your brain away. God has placed a brain within each of us to be used as only He knows the full potential that our brain is capable of. In the Christian faith, one does not have to receive the opinions of others regarding God’s Word. God has given us His Spirit to help us understand His Word. He has given us people who will share His Word with us. But we should always challenge everything and allow God’s Spirit to bring clarity and clear understanding about what the text is saying to us.

The more we learn to ask the right questions, the more probability that we arrive at the right answers. We find many people in the Bible that openly asked questions and received the right answers. Some accepted it and lived according to it, while others rejected it and went their way. Abraham asked God, 'Why would you destroy the righteous with the wicked?’ Moses asked God, ‘Why would you bring your people out of Egypt and leave them in the wilderness?’ David asked God, ‘Why do the righteous suffer and the wicked prosper?’ Jeremiah asked God, ‘Is there no balm in Gilead?’ The Rich Young Ruler asked Jesus, ‘What must I do to inherit eternal life?’ Nicodemus asked Jesus, ‘What must I do to be saved?’ Paul asked God, ‘Who art Thou Lord?’ Jesus asked the Father, ‘Why have you forsaken Me?’

Questions are normally followed by answers, but in the times, we live, questions have become the starting place for arguments and quarreling and skirmishes. 1st Peter 3:15 “But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.” The world around us is full of questions, and Jesus has provided us with all the relevant answers. Let us be true ambassadors for Christ in answering the questions of the world with the answers of the Lord. He will stir up hearts, convict lives and bring men and women to His saving grace!
