What was your name again?
Guilty as charged for hearing a room full of people go around and say their name, yet barely remembering all of those new faces by the time we get to the last person. Looking for a better way to make introductions?
Highly recommend this method I learned at Groundlings Improv School and repeated at a friends birthday the following month. With the formula of:
For example, let's say we have 4 people meeting each other for the first time. The group includes Shrini, Marcela, Benoit, and Yasmine. Shrini explains the introduction game to the group and goes first.
"Call me Strong Shrini," as he flexes his biceps for the group. ????
Everyone in the group repeats "Strong Shrini" with muscles flexed.
????
"Hola, I am Magical Marcela," as she waves an imaginary wand in her hand. ?
Everyone in the group repeats "Magical Marcela" and waves their imaginary wands at one another.
Now from the beginning we start again with "Strong Shrini" flexing muscles and "Magical Marcela" waving the wand.

?????
"Bonjour, my name is Bouncy Benoit," as he jumps up and down like a pogo stick. ??
Everyone in the group repeats "Bouncy Benoit," laughing as they jump straight up and down with their arms alongside their bodies.
Now from the beginning we start again with "Strong Shrini" flexing muscles, "Magical Marcela" waving the wand, and "Bouncy Benoit" jumping up and down.
???????
"Last but not least, I am Youthful Yasmine," as she brings her arms and legs into a joyful march and beams with a smile. ??
Everyone in the group repeats "Youthful Yasmine," with great amusement to the pretend hike they've found themselves on.
For the final time, we start again with "Strong Shrini" flexing muscles and "Magical Marcela" waving the wand. "Bouncy Benoit" jumping up and down and "Youthful Yasmine" marching with a smile.

Something about the repetition, getting up and moving, as well as the adjective alliteration helps the names stick longer than our typical.. "Hi my name is Allison, I live in So Cal, and I like to read books."
Give it a shot and see if it makes a difference in recalling the names of those you meet! ??

7 个月Allison Leibovich I struggle with remembering people's names on the first try. So, thank you for sharing this. I'm curious, what % of people doing this exercise are able to remember the names of the people they met and what % of people do they remember. Do they only remember individuals with very creative adjectives?
