What if your mornings started like this?

My morning routine is something I get asked about often since it’s hard for folks to believe I’m a 4 am-er. Then comes questions and comments like:
“But, why!?”
“I could never.”
“Man, you’re ccrrrrrraaaaaazzzzzzy.”
“What are you doing that early in the morning?”
“You must go to bed at like 6 o’clock every night!”
Well, the main reason I get up so early is to squeeze more juice out of the day before the rest of the world wakes up. ??
It’s quiet, there are no interruptions, and I’m hyper-creative in the early mornings.
Over the years as a creative entrepreneur, I've found that starting each day super-early with intentionality, discipline, and deep focus equips me for all the ‘life happened’ moments I will go through multiple times each week or month.
That's why I've developed a 3-part bulletproof morning routine that I adhere to every single weekday, which you can check out in this 2-min video here >>

First, I kick things off with a quick 30-minute workout.
It’s sometimes a run, but it’s usually an indoor session involving kickboxing, pilates, yoga, strength, recovery, or cardio. I do not eat breakfast first and I rarely hydrate before working out, but that's the point. I'm training under inconvenient conditions because when life happens, it won't be convenient. Plus, this helps me wake up and get my mind right for the day; it’s like taking a caffeine shower, ha!
Second, I do 10+ minutes of guided meditation, anchoring my focus on breathing and practicing equanimity.
This helps me bring a heightened self-awareness, self-validation, and mindfulness into my day; I can stay calm and balanced even when/if my day goes off the rails. What I cannot control, I have way less of a problem with; instead, I redirect that energy on what I can influence.
Third, I set my intentions for the day by journaling.
I think about my desires, what it’s time to let go of, and how this fits into my bigger life goals. This keeps me focused and reminds me of what I'm working towards. And journaling can look like recording a quick audio, video, using pen and paper, or digitally writing things down using an app.
This 3-part morning routine helps me start my day off right, fill up my (metaphorical) cup, and have energy and excitement for the next 16 hours. Plus, it ensures I keep a good life-work balance.
The big secret is that a powerful morning starts the night before. Here’s a free 3-step playbook that goes deeper on this topic that I put together to help you shut things down in the evening.

9 个月Got to tag my 4 am bestie, Laura Zug, who has a VERY different morning routine than me, but what matters is she's doing what works for her. ???? If you don't mind sharing, what do things look like for you between 4 and 5am during the week, Laura?

9 个月Strong morning routine there Darnell. I applaud your ability to start the day with a “dry” workout. My best time to exercise is around 3-4pm. ?? I do have a morning routine but the start time is more like 6am and does involve coffee. I play Wordle, read some news, then check my Linkedin for comments. After that comes breakfast, shower, and my workday start. It feels a bit silly to write down my morning routine for some reason. ??♀? But hey you asked and I’m up for the challenge. I bet the routine looks different for everyone of us. Depends wildly if you have kids or not. Mine are grown up now. ??

9 个月YES- I totally agree. I absolutely LOVE my hour to myself before my family gets up. I am meant to wake them up at 8 but I am guilty of 'letting them sleep" a little longer so I get more time to myself!!
