What Are Your Money Goals?

"Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow." Proverbs 13:11 NIV

Money is important. It doesn't matter how much passion we have, the impact we desire to make or what we feel our purpose is, money has its place in all these areas. But because it's so important, we have come to exalt it above everything else. It has become an idol or nothing.

We tell ourselves that it's either we have money or life isn't worth living. This sows the seed of impatience in our hearts, causing us to do the unimaginable to make money.

Then focus scripture shows us that there are two ways to make money:

1. Dishonest methods

In my life, I have tried to earn through methods that naturally go against my values. In all those times, whatever money I made yielded nothing. I never got to enjoy it because as I got it, something else took it away. There was a time I did six figures and lost every penny to a fraud.

You may notice people who make a lot of money, but you never see the effect on their lives. The spirit behind the wealth is different - it devours and doesn't add increase. You don't want that.

2. Methods guided by godly values

Gathering money little by little doesn't necessarily mean in tiny amounts. It simply refers to the patience behind wealth creation. While hurrying causes us to make mistakes, patience allows us to think and make the right decisions.

Being able to sacrifice tendencies like greed has helped me make the right financial decisions. Little by little also doesn't mean slow, but that you'll make it at the right speed. Stay with the process.

Note that just because you gathered money through honest means doesn't mean you're not susceptible to losing it foolishly. Simply ensure that as you do the work and reap the financial benefits, your wealth creation is guided by positive values. This is how we will create a good foundation for our wealth to grow. Go forth and prosper.
