What Your LinkedIn Headline Is Missing

How do you answer the question, "What do you do for work?"
Now, how would you describe what you do for work beyond your job title?
Most people use a generic headline for their LinkedIn using the format [Job Title] at [Company].
Did you know that LinkedIn gives you 220 characters (up from 120) for your headline? There’s a reason for that.
Your LinkedIn headline is one of the most powerful ways for you to appear in search results both on LinkedIn and on Google (make sure your profile is public if you want it on Google!).
?? Tip of the Day
While you don’t necessarily want to stuff your headline with a bunch of keywords, it’s important to include the ones that are relevant to your work and what you want to be known for. Instead of “HR leader,” how about “HR leader with 20+ years experience passionate about developing talent”? Instead of “Product Manager,” how about “Product Manager @ [Company] | Passionate about EdTech and creating products that inspire creativity.”
Check out mine below. With this headline, I want to convey that I do a number of things: I'm a virtual speaker, I'm an editorial leader in tech, and I want you to see that I'm a LinkedIn Learning Instructor. You'll also see my mission statement.
Don't be afraid to experiment with your headline, too — I'm always looking for new ways to update mine!
If you update your LinkedIn headline after reading this email, let me know in the comments or send me a DM! I’d love to see your changes.
Thanks for reading!
