What your life will look like in 5 years

"Will I really be able to have clients through my project?" - said a recent client on our discovery session, before hiring me.

The thing is that we never really know what our future holds for us.

Worse, when you go in business, or want to grow your projects faster, this question will haunt you days and nights.

This question is really at the forefront of the good or poor decisions that many project owners would make.

I invited my client above to think through what their life could look like 5 years from now.

We went through 2 scenarios, one where they did learn better, the sales skills to actually know how to gain clients, and a second scenario where they did not improved those skills. What they said shook me, the picture was drastically different from one scenario to the other.

What my client said:

Scenario 1: Learning and improving quickly your sales skills now

1. I'll be in rooms making bigger deals already in 5 years. Would be respected for my work for the community.
2. Mostly, it will give me the hedge to pursue other projects in Africa as I wish.
3. I will really inspire the youngest generation to believe in their dreams, and show them that the next "Elon Musks" can come from Africa.

Scenario 2: Not learning them sales skills now

1. Would probably still HAVE to work to pay the bills.
2. Would probably kill the project or move to something else.?
3. I won't have the time to really pursue my other dream business projects, even if I earn money from my job. Because I'll probably evolve in my career and still be busy.

After doing this work, I asked them to CHOOSE one scenario they?would desire?for their future. And with no hesitation, they went with scenario 1, and we got to work very quickly.

Sometimes, we?need a good reminder of where our future is headed with the short-term decisions we are taking.?

The truth is that, we are all creating our future 5 years from now, consciously or not.
