What are YOUR Goals for Networking Next Year?

What are YOUR Goals for Networking Next Year?

As the year draws to a close, many of us think of making New Year resolutions. Few of them will stick beyond the end of January – find out why and how to make them stick in my latest blog post Why Most New Year Resolutions Fail and How to Make Them Stick: https://www.suemaitland.com/blog

We often set resolutions focused on things like getting fit, losing weight, cutting back on our alcohol consumption, but why not focus on building a more vibrant and meaningful community?

Refreshing and building out our network can have a dramatic and positive impact on our life. It can open doors to new opportunities, open our minds to new discoveries and enhance our sense of wellbeing as we grow our community with meaningful connections.

As my blog post explains, the key to making New Year resolutions stick, is to have a strong reason WHY you want to take this action. Making resolutions because you feel you should, will never stick.

Here are some steps you can take to help you expand your network strategically in the coming year:

1)??Get clarity on what’s most important to you at this point in your life. It may be finding a new job, learning a new skill, meeting new people with common interests, whatever it is, make sure it’s really important to you. Unsure about your priorities? Consider investing in my What’s Important to Me NOW? online course and community to give you that clarity: https://www.suemaitland.com/courses

2) Think about the profile of people you’d like to meet. Are the people you spend time with helping you achieve your goals? Think strategically about what ideal new connections would look like.

3)??Evaluate how well the people in your network align with your goals. Ask yourself “Are the people I’m spending time with helping me achieve my goals and are any of them holding me back?”

4)??Consider your current networking commitments. Ask yourself whether the time you spend on networking activities is time well spent.

5)??Research where else you can network. Find out where the people you want to meet go to network.

6)??Set measurable targets for your networking. Determine how much time you will allocate to networking next year and make it count!

7)??Set checkpoints to evaluate and adjust. Stop every 3 – 6 months and assess how well your networking activities are serving you and adjust if necessary.

Follow these steps and by the end of next year, you could have a new, more vibrant and aligned community who can uplift you and support you to achieve your goals.

I like the idea of reframing new year's resolutions and expanding the possibilities for them--beyond the usual diet and exercise ones that leave people despondent. Building our network and expanding one's sense of community seems a lot more fulfilling and sustainable in the long term. As an aside; I have picked a theme word for the new year for the past decade or so; a value or character trait that I'd like to strive for that year. And every year my year ends up completely unfolding in a way that is not remotely close to my theme word! But I still like to do it just to see what might happen.
