Whether you celebrate the Christian festival of Christmas or not, it is difficult not to get caught up in the marketing that surrounds it. Yet how often do we pause to reflect on the true spirit of Christmas?
I am going to borrow a little story I found on Facebook, you might have seen it too, but worth repeating:
'ATTENTION TO ALL PARENTS WHO NEED TO TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA?
Son: "Dad, I think I'm old enough now. Is there a Santa Claus?." Dad: "Ok, I agree that your old enough. But before I tell you, I have a question for you. You see, the “truth” is a dangerous gift. Once you know something, you can't unknow it. Once you know the truth about Santa Claus, you will never again understand and relate to him as you do now. So my question is: Are you sure you want to know?"?
Brief pause...Son: "Yes, I want to know"Dad: "Ok, I'll tell you: Yes there is a Santa Claus" Son: "Really?" Dad: Yes, really, but he's not an old man with a beard in a red suit. That's just what we tell kids. You see, kids are too young to understand the true nature of Santa Claus, so we explain it to them in a way that they can understand.?
The truth about Santa Claus is that he's not a person at all; he's an idea. Think of all those presents Santa gave you over the years. I actually bought those myself. I watched you open them. And did it bother me that you didn't thank me? Of course not! In fact it gave me great pleasure.?
You see, Santa Claus is THE IDEA OF GIVING FOR THE SAKE OF GIVING, without thought of thanks or acknowledgement.
When I saw that woman collapse on the subway last week and called for help, I knew that she'd never know that it was me that summoned the ambulance. I was being Santa Claus when I did that." Son: "Oh."Dad: "So now that you know, you're part of it. You have to be Santa Claus too now. That means you can never tell a young kid the secret, and you have to help us select Santa presents for them, and most important, you have to look for opportunities to help people. Got it?"
Help each other this Christmas and...be kind.'
Whether you have had that conversation with a child - yours or someone else's, it does us all good to remember that it is not the hype of the advertisers that we celebrate, it is the gift of kindness.?
A gift, a hug, a smile, your love - the giver gets so much in return. In this season of good will, it serves us all to extend the gift of kindness?throughout the festive season and beyond into 2024.?

I am so excited because I have been invited to the Ted X stage in Nottingham on 18th Jan. Bit nervous too, obvs.?
So, if that is the beginning of my year, what will the rest of it be like?!!!
There are still some tickets left, so if you are in the area and want to watch the recording and say hi afterwards it would be amazing to have you there.
The other 6 speakers are very inspiring and have powerful stories to share - you might need to bring a hankie ?? and the networking afterwards will bring some fabulous connections. Many of our community are coming to support me too.
No Guest Meeting in Dec, but you can already book in for 30th Jan 2024!
Starting in 2024, we will no longer be inviting guests to speak at our sessions, we are bursting with important messages and purpose filled entrepreneurs and so will be using our home grown talent.
January will be starting us off strong, with two titans, who are on a mission to affect millions of people to create businesses for good.
Steve Cook of The Undaunted will be sharing his journey and relaying his philosophy of how we need an Undaunted world.??He sees the power of collaboration and his view of the world will resonate and call people to action.
Keith Trubshaw is more focused on solitary entrepreneur and from his experiences he can illustrate what it is like to be on The Lonely Seat. A successful entrepreneur who has not lost touch with what is important in our world today.
Both have inspired me and I know you will be no different.
